Brandon Phillips chatted with MLB Network's Eric Byrnes this past week about a variety of topics. Here are some of the things they discussed:
+ Phillips' ability to hit for both power and steal bases
+ The NLDS debacle against the Giants
+ The acquisition of Shin-Soo Choo
+ Cincinnati's stellar starting rotation

The Spring Training season has started, and Shin-Soo Choo is gaining confidence playing center field for the Cincinnati Reds.
“But everyday I feel better with practice,” he said. “There’s still work to do. But I feel more confident.”
Granted, the former right fielder has only played a little bit, and exhibition baseball is nothing like when the games count, but it’s good...
A few weeks ago I was able to talk with Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Travis ‘Moose’ Mattair. He had a real breakout season in 2012 and hopes to build upon that for 2013. You can follow him on twitter @mooser3226
RML: Since being drafted in 2007 you have seen two organizations and gone on to play college basketball. Has that journey helped your career?
Travis Mattair: It...
Todd Frazier singles in the first inning, knocking in Joey Votto. The Cincinnati Reds started off the 2013 Spring Training season with a game against the Cleveland Indians. Although they both share Goodyear Ball Park, the Reds played the visitors this time.
The game was an offensive show, with a combined 21 runs and 27 hits, which isn’t uncommon early in the Spring. For the Reds...
GOODYEAR, AZ - The game is about people. Too often we forget that, obsessing over statistics, complaining about contracts, demanding trades and firings and better performances from our favorite clubs.
Thats all part of baseball in the 21st century, all part of what makes the game great. But every so often, you get a reminder. You hear about something like outfielder Shin-Soo Choos...
Might the young shortstop experience a breakout year in 2013?
He's not actually as young as you'd think. He'll turn 28 on August 12th during his second full year as the Reds starting shortstop. His 2012 was not spectacular, but he provided pretty good defense at the position. His .975 fielding percentage placed him ninth among MLB shortstops as he committed 14 errors...

I have an unusual hobby. I’ve been keeping journals of Cincinnati Reds games since 1991. It started when my brother-in-law gave me a weekly planner and I got an idea to hand write the 1991 Reds schedule in it, and as they say, the rest is history. I now have a nice collection of 22 heavily used weekly planners in my archives (an old shoebox).
So much about the success or failure of a team often has to do with scheduling -- playing the right teams, at the right time, at the right location. ESPN baseball guru Buster Olney knows this and that is why he recently broke down the early season schedules of each team in the National League.
In case you are wondering, and I know that you are, the Reds landed in the middle-of...
The all-time single-season minor league stolen base leader Billy Hamilton is taking a more deliberate approach to his first big league camp with Cincinnati, as he converts from a shortstop to a center fielder.
The new Redleg Nation Radio
Yesterday I recorded a podcast with Redleg Nation‘s Chad Dotson. It was a test drive for a joint project between the two sites to bring Redleg Nation Radio to a new format on BlogTalkRadio. The show, we hope, will be a once a week venture. I plan to co-host most of the shows and will be joined by a variety of the writers at Redleg Nation. We are pretty...
Ben and Sam preview the Reds` season with Jay Jaffe and Geoff Young, and Pete talks to Cincinnati CBS affiliate sports anchor/reporter Zach Wells (at 18:35).
2012 NL Central Standings
The ballots have been cast and the votes have been counted! Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their opinions. This was definitely a fun post to put together. But without further adieu, here is the unveiling of the Redlegs Review 2013 Preseason All-NL Central team, as voted by you the readers and fans. I hope you enjoy.

Can Joey Votto lead Cincinnati back to a Reds October? (photo: Craig Turley, 2/22/13)
February Predictions For October BaseballPlayers are still getting used to the daily routine of Spring Training, but with games about to start, it is never too early to give a look at what the standings might look...
It’s easy to dismiss some of the meaningful stories that can occur with success in baseball. For Indians fans in February 2013, filled with optimism after the signing of two high-profile free agent outfielders, that means the amazing ascent to relevance by former fan-favorite Shin-Soo Choo.
In a fairly emotional article by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that just posted early this...
We here at BurningRiverBaseball are working on our predictions for this year and we'd like to hear what you think. In addition to our three staff writers, we want to know who the average reader thinks will be the team MVP, best pitcher and so on. To do this, we will hold polls (located on the right side of the main page) from now until the end of Spring Training. Each poll will...
