While the majority of talk about the San Francisco Giants pitching staff centering around the fact that Tim Lincecum has lost his stuff, the real talk should be about their #1 pitcher, Matt Cain. Cain grabbed his 10th win of the season last night in the Giants 3-2 victory over the Houston Astros. Cain is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and he’s posted stats this year to prove it. After throwing for 6+ innings and only allowing 1 ER last night, he currently has an era of 2.56, which puts him in 9th place among starters in the Major Leagues. He also ranks in the top-10 in the MLB in strikeouts and whip with 125 K’s and a 0.96 whip. The Giants may have lost one of the star pitchers in Lincecum, but Cain and the rest of their pitching staff is picking up the slack.

In addition to the great season Cain is putting together this year, the Giants are also receiving solid seasons from Madison Bumgarner and Ryan Vogelsong. Bumgarner has a record of 11-5 with a 3.15 era and Vogelsong is 7-4 with a 2.36 era. With these solid numbers from Bumgarner and Vogelsong, the Giants have the best 1-2-3 pitching combo in all of the bigs. They currently sit atop the NL West with a record of 49-40. Just imagine what the Giants record would be if Lincecum could be the dominate Lincecum of old.

Check out the video highlights from Cain’s 10th win here.
