Baltimore Orioles utility man Chris Davis hit three home runs against the Blue Jays on Friday night, just one home run of becoming the 17th player in Major League History to hit four homers in one game. Davis, a five-year veteran with 67 career home runs, nearly joined Texas Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton in the four home run club. Hamilton accomplished the feat earlier this season against the Orioles at Oriole Park. “I was definitely thinking about the home run,” Davis said regarding his third at-bat “He gave me a good pitch to hit on the first pitch and I fouled it off. He was tough after that, but the biggest thing is we get the win and I enjoyed a pretty good night.”

Davis accomplishes rare feat

By making a pitching appearance this season and hitting for power, Baltimore's Chris Davis accomplished a feat that only two other players have pulled off since 1900.

Davis homers on first 3 ABs vs Blue Jays

Chris Davis homered in each of his first three at-bats for the Baltimore Orioles against the Toronto Blue Jays, but couldn't continue the power display in his fourth trip to the plate. Davis hit solo shots off starter Carlos Villanueva in the second and fourth innings Friday night and added a two-run drive against Steve Delabar in the sixth to put Baltimore up 5-1. Facing Brad...

Orioles recall LHP Matusz, designate J.C. Romero

The Baltimore Orioles have recalled left-hander Brian Matusz from Triple-A Norfolk and assigned him to the bullpen, a radical change for the long-time starter. Matusz has pitched in 68 major league games, all of them starts. The Orioles had him serve as a reliever in four games recently with Norfolk, and he did well enough to warrant a look at the big league level. Manager Buck...

Moves Made: Matusz comes back up; Hunter goes down and more..

It looks like Tommy Hunter has been demoted back to minors, and considering how things have gone with him -- especially after Thursday's start, who could blame the team? The Orioles are in it to win, and they have to look at all the weak links. I'd imagine that he would be promoted back once rosters expand in September. As for Matusz, according to reports, he'll be pitching...

Davis homers in first three at-bats

Stepping to the plate with a chance to become the 17th player in baseball history to hit four home runs in a game, Chris Davis had one thing in mind. ''I was thinking about trying to work a walk,'' Davis said with a wry grin. Davis didn't get that fourth homer, but three was quite enough to power the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 victory over the skidding Toronto...

BALTIMORE -- Eager to bolster an inexperienced pitching staff during their first playoff run since 1997, the Baltimore Orioles obtained left-hander Joe Saunders on Sunday in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Baltimore gave Arizona right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom and cash considerations or a player to be named later. Saunders, who was scheduled to start Sunday against San...

Going for it

As I sit here in the pressbox, Anthony is currently building an ark with his fellow fans in the stands. In between the raindrops he sends in this dispatch. ______________   On Sundays, I usually have lunch with some friends before the game at one of the fine Baltimore establishments across the street from Camden Yards. Before this season, the topic of conversation would have...
