Found June 16, 2012 on Redlegs Review:
Your browser does not support iframes. Jay Bruce is no stranger to the longball. With that said, his most recent one came in unusual fashion on Friday night as the 24-year old legged out an inside-the-parker to give the Reds a 1-0 at the time. His ball certainly didn't clear the fence, but it goes down as a homer in the box score nonetheless, no. 14 on the season to be exact. Bruce had this to say following the game: "They said I looked terrible when I got to the dugout. But I thought I looked fine. I felt fine," Bruce said as a teammate yelled out "speed demon!" in the clubhouse. "Had enough gas to be safe, so that's all that matters." It was the first career grand slam for the Beaumont, Texas native and the first by a Red since Drew Stubbs nailed one nearly one year to the date on June 17, 2011.

  • Yes, it goes down as a homer in the box score, but it was a solo homer, not a grand slam! Incidentally, Stubbs' inside-the-parker last year was also a solo homer....

Bruce hit a fly ball to left field off New York Mets pitcher Dillon Gee. The ball sliced towards the foul line and away from Mets left fielder Jason Bay, who dove for the ball...

Seriously, this.

I know slumps are a part of baseball, but how bad has it been lately? It’s getting to the point where I have random buddies who know I’m a Jay Bruce fan that text me to make fun of the poor fella (and me). One friend was nice enough to nickname him Jay ’0-fuhr’. Fittingly, I suppose. Bruce was the only Reds player in the lineup to go 0 for the day in not only today’s game...

Bruce, Bailey help Reds top Mets 4-1

NEW YORK -- Jon Niese had appeared to right himself quickly in the first inning Saturday night, retiring two of the Cincinnati Reds' toughest hitters after allowing a pair of leadoff singles. The New York Mets starter got ahead of Jay Bruce 0-2, then opted for a curveball. Suddenly, Niese was no longer righting himself or getting ahead, as Bruce smacked the hanging curve...

NEW YORK -- The ball bounced off the left field wall, and New York Mets left fielder Jason Bay soon followed, crashing headfirst into the fence after chasing the ball off Jay Bruce's bat. By the time the play ended, Bruce would get teased for "running out of gas" by his teammates after hitting his first career inside-the-park home run in the Cincinnati Reds' 7...

Mets LF Bay leaves game with possible concussion

Mets left fielder Jason Bay is hurt again after crashing into the wall while trying to catch an inside-the-park homer by Jay Bruce of the Cincinnati Reds. The team said Bay came out of Friday night's game with a possible concussion, the latest setback for a player who has been an injury-plagued bust in New York since signing a $66 million contract before the 2010 season. Bruce...

Post Game: Reds 4 Mets 1

Niese settled in after a rough first inning, but still took the loss tonight. The Mets fell to the Reds by a score of 4-1 tonight. This clinches a series loss for the Mets. The Mets had some...

Bay injury costly as Mets fall to Reds

NEW YORK -- Jay Bruce's inside-the-park home run got the Cincinnati Reds off to a strong start against the New York Mets, but the play might have cost the Mets more than the first run of their 7-3 loss Friday night. Mets left fielder Jason Bay left the game after the play in the top of the second inning, as he stumbled on the warning track in the left-field corner while chasing...

Your Saturday Baseball Open Thread

Last night the Reds beat the Mets 7-3 in Soprano Land on the strength of Bronson Arroyo and Jay Bruce’s first career inside the park home run. In Washington, Bryce Harper’s debut against the Yankees was a 1 for 4 night that ended with a 7-2 Nationals loss. And I completed my 5K without the need of a defibrillator at 36:00 on the dot. Definitely falls into the ‘needs improvement’...

BP has been smokin' at the plate as of late.
