As Norty pointed out earlier this week, the Home Run Derby was pretty uneventful.  Prince Fielder took home the title but all in all it was just pretty boring.  In fact I think everything’s been boring since Josh Hamilton’s crazy performance back in 2008.  It’s kind of like the dunk contest.  I mean how much more can you really ask for?

So while Prince enjoyed his trophy we were left sitting with “blah.”   But not these fans!  These fans decided to get into it in Kansas City.   It’s the type of brawl that if on television would have made fans a whole lot more interested in the Home Run Derby.

Jose Bautista quotes Ricky Bobby after losing to Prince Fielder in Home Run Derby

Prince Fielder put on a show for fans of the Home Run Derby — if there are any left — on Tuesday night as he won the event for the second time and hit some absolute bombs in the process. Fielder hit the four longest homers of the night, two of which traveled an estimated 476 feet. In the final round, Fielder defeated Jose Bautista by a score of 12-7. Bautista was considered by...

What All-Star events really mean for Tigers

Well the last two days have been quite a roller coaster for Tiger fans. On Monday, they watched beloved Tiger Prince Fielder surprisingly win the 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby. He put on a show, has a he hit ball after ball in to the fountains all around Kauffman Stadium. Screengrab Snafu: Brewer(?) Prince Fielder wins Home Run Derby

Monday night's Home Run Derby was quite the spectacle.  You had Kansas City fans booing Robby Cano without mercy, John Kruk eating ribs during a spectacular "interview" with George Brett, Pedro Gomez trying to read tweets, and of course the presence of one Chris Berman.  At times, it was easy to forget about the actual Home Run Derby, which was won by Prince...

Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun had been voted to start in four straight All-Star games playing in three of them but it took a fifth straight nomination for Braun to tally his first hit. With a 0-for-7 history with three strikeouts in past All-Star games, Braun came to the plate in the top of the first inning on Tuesday against Detroit ace Justin Verlander looking to...

Then and now: How the Tigers are hanging in 2012

Detroit -- There were great expectations for the Detroit Tigers coming into the 2012 season after they signed Prince Fielder, one of the top free agents on the market. Virtually every baseball expert picked the Tigers to repeat as Central Division champions. But, as the old saying goes, the games are not played on paper. It became clear from the second game of the season that...

Daily Friar 7.10.12

Normally I know what I am going to write about before I sit down and put the words down on the computer. During the All-Star break that is a little hard to do. I normally will make some comments about last night's game, or a potential trade in the works and rumors surrounding it. However, during the break that isn't the case. Prince Fielder won the home run derby last night...

American League All-Star Break Awards

I am going to dispense with my normal statistical breakdowns to go with a more gut reaction to the two major awards. Today, we will look at the American League awards and tomorrow we will look at the National League Awards. In a new wrinkle, we will categorize it in the same way the horse races do. In other words we will have win, place, and show. In the interest of...
