Mike Napoli, Boston Red Sox’s power-slugging first baseman, hit two tape measure shots during his team’s 10-1 thrashing of the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Wednesday. The Red Sox as a team belted out five round-trippers during the lopsided laugher, but the two moon shots Napoli unleashed were by far the most impressive. The first homer, in the 4th inning of Mark Buehrle, was measured at an astounding 472 feet. And while his second home run of the night, this one coming in the 7th inning when he unloaded on a fastball offering from relief pitcher Esmil Rogers, “only” traveled 468 feet, but using basic mathematics reveals that the two long balls totaled a whopping 939 feet. Which is a lot of feet. Via MLB.com: Unreal. It was the 11th multi-homer game of Napoli’s career and his fifth and sixth homers on the season. Red Sox skipper John Farrell, who served as the Blue Jays manager for two seasons before ending up in Boston, said, “I haven’t spent a whole lot of time here relative to others that have seen many games in here but, in the time spent, I have never seen a ball that high up in the center-field area.” The post Vulgar display of power: Mike Napoli’s two homers measured 472, 467 feet (video) appeared first on Sportress of Blogitude.
