Another Cubs Blog:
I missed Al in the postgame festivities. Something tells me, we might not run in the same pack or hit the same taverns.
Gents, it was priceless today. I was nervous from the start, but the moment the Cubs took the five-nill lead I was even more on edge. My scaredness actually runneth over when I called the Glaus homerun. But in the end all's well that ends well. Hats off to Marmol and Woody closing the door again. (When I think back on Woody's career with the Cubs, it is really something to imagine him getting the final out for a division title).
What a fucking regular season.
You know, alot of Cubs teams have had high expectations in Mesa. The majority of those teams and expectations turn into long lost dreams come June. I count this team as probably the only Cubs team in my lifetime that had high expectations and met those expectations.
I have no idea what the playoffs hold in store. I hope it is good. But the regular season that this team has produced will go down in my memory as my favorite. Not the best or any of that, but in my predjudiced opinion--this has been my favorite Cub regular season in 30 years. The comebacks, Z's no hitter and the different hero everyday has made 2008 my favorite.
If any of you saw the bitching and moaning that I did in 2005 and 2006, I have to say that this is what I always imagined and hoped this club could be in this division. The Cubs have become THE force in their division. 3 division titles in 6 seasons.
The playoffs are a crapshoot, but this franchise has built a club that can make it on a year in and year out basis. That's all I can ask for. Congrats to Booze Cruisin' Gym Teacher Jim and Uncle Lou. They have built the best team in this division.
On to the crapshoot…
Cheers,
