MVN:
Waiting for Phil Rogers to admit he was wrong is akin to waiting for me to abandon my loyalty to Bob Knight, Apple products and chorizo. It's just not going to happen.Luckily for Phil and you the reading public, we are here to keep track of such things for him. We're not sure whether Phil believes it was still a mistake for the Cubs to give up on Mark Prior. To my knowledge, he has never addressed that rather spurious claim. We just may have to let that one go. But just last month he said the Cubs should trade Carlos Zambrano for a "bag of balls."On its face, it was a ludicrous suggestion. The Cubs already have a bag of balls. Plus, Z has been one of the five best pitchers in baseball the last six seasons. And, since Phil's bag-of-balls column, Z has been pretty good at this job. How good?Four starts, 2-1 record, 24 innings pitched, six earned runs (2.25 ERA), 22 strikeouts, 12 walks, and - oh yes - two game-winning hits. So, Phil, do you think it's a good idea to get rid of the anchor of the Cubs rotation when they are three games out in the division, just because he somehow offends your sense of nicety? Really?Again, to recap: Phil Rogers believes the Cubs should have kept Mark Prior and should get rid of Carlos Zambrano.Get the man a job in baseball.
