Alex Avila hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning off Mark Melancon as the Detroit Tigers came from behind on two occasions in the late innings to complete a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox 13-12. Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer to tie it in the bottom of the ninth and finished with five RBIs and three runs scored for the Tigers. The Red Sox grabbed a 12-10 lead in the top of the 11th and brought in Melancon (0-2) for the team’s second save opportunity of the afternoon. The right-hander got Brennan Boesch leading off the frame but Cabrera and Prince Fielder followed with back-to-back singles. Cabrera advanced on a wild pitch and came in on Delmon Young’s sacrifice fly.
