PITTSBURGH - The Pirates could be forgiven for wanting no part of any break, All-Star or otherwise. Neil Walker went 5-for-5, Andrew McCutchen blasted two more home runs, and A.J. Burnett won his 10th game in Pittsburgh's 13-2 blowout of San Francisco on Sunday at PNC Park. That sent the Pirates, whose streak of 19 consecutive losing seasons is a professional sports record, into the break with a 48-37 record, their highest point above .500 since that 1992 season, which was the last time the Pirates had a winning record and the last time they made a playoff appearance. They've also won 22 of their past 33. "It's a great sendoff, for sure, for these fans to finish up the half like this," said Walker, the Pittsburgh native. "We're just getting started, though. Long way to go." Walker's average was at .256 on June 26, but his two-week tear has it up to .291 and closer to his career norms. He doubled in his opening at-bat, hit his sixth ho...

Andrew McCutchen hits four out in Home Run Derby
It was a solid showing by Andrew McCutchen in his first every Home Run Derby. Although, I’m not going to lie, I was really wanting to see him just take a high and outside pitch and drill it opposite field.
Still, what an accomplishment and an experience for McCutchen. He didn’t make it past the first round, but it’s always fun seeing your own players perform on a national stage...

Last night Major League Baseball held their annual Home Run Derby and for the first time since 2005 the Pirates had representation at the event. Andrew McCutchen who is leading the league in batting average was a last minute addition to the derby after Miami’s Giancarlo Stanton could not participate due to injury.
While McCutchen didn’t advance to the second round and managed...

For The Pittsburgh Pirates 13 Is A Lucky Number They End Half In First Place
The Pittsburgh Pirates are the best team in the National League Central with a one game lead at the break over the Reds. The Pirates beat the San Francisco Giants 13-2 in the teams last game before the All-Star break. Neil Walker had a great day at the plate, Walker went 5 for 5 with 2 R.B.I.’s and he alone accounted for 4 of the 13 runs the Pirates scored. Andrew McCutchen the...

Pirates 13, Giants 2
Andrew McCutchen hit two home runs, Neil Walker homered among his five hits and the Pittsburgh Pirates entered the All-Star break in sole possession of first place following a 13-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Andrew McCutchen: The Heart of the Pittsburgh Pirates
When asked the question, "which one player would you pick to be on your team for the next decade?" a short group of about 10 players come to mind, such as budding young superstars Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, dominating stars that are just hitting their primes such as Matt Kemp or Troy Tulowitzki, or a rising ace like Clayton Kershaw or Stephen Strasburg. But what about...
Blasting into the break
The Pirates put on one heck of a show this afternoon, capping off the homestand and the unofficial end of the first half in grand style. They’ll head to the break 11 games over .500 and in first place, and couldn’t possibly be riding any higher.
The stars of the day were exactly who you’d expect: Andrew McCutchen and A.J. Burnett. McCutchen pounded a two-run homer to right...

Cutch beats both All-Star captains in Home Run Derby
SHOCKER: Andrew McCutchen didn’t win last night’s Home Run Derby, but he did make Jason Bay look like an overrated power supply with a candy arm that wasn’t worth $4.56 mil a year (not sure what Bay’s arm has to do with home runs but we’re sticking to it). Back in 2005, Bay embarrassed Pirates fans and the entire country of Canada, which he represented, in the Derby at...
