The Pirates got another great home start from A.J. Burnett on Saturday, and took advantage of some Miami gifts to win their fourth straight game and go to 13 over .500.

Burnett was not dominant (8 hits and only 3 K’s) but did a wonderful job going 7.2 innings while allowing just one run on a solo homer. A.J. was able to get the outs when he needed them and also gave the bullpen a nice boost after it was worked relatively hard last night (and for most of the week).  And as usual, he got a fantastic ovation from the sellout crowd when he came off the mound in the eighth.

Meanwhile, the offense didn’t homer and only picked up five hits on the entire night, but that wasn’t an issue thanks to an extremely messy fourth inning by the Fish. They put up a four spot without getting a hit – two hit batters, a sac bunt that was thrown away, a walk, a sac fly, and then three more walks. Fun stuff. I couldn’t believe Carlos Zambrano and/or Ozzie Guillen didn’t flip out afterwards.

Other than those two things, not a whole lot else happened…but the Bucs didn’t need much else. Brad Lincoln got the final four outs for a save, and that was that. Another big crowd went home happy and the Bucs kept pace with the Reds (0.5 back after another Cincy win) while continuing to win at an unprecedented rate. They’ll go for the sweep tomorrow.

MVP: Burnett (+.336) / LVP: McGehee (-.047) / Key play: Burnett’s bunt + the error
