Papi Hurting The Empire's FeelingsAfter the Red Sox defeated the Empire 3-0 in a rain-shortened game in the Bronx, Will Middlebrooks asked David Ortiz, "What went farther, the ball or the bat flip?" After clouting a monster shot off Hiroki Kuroda, the Boston designated hitter flipped his bat and trotted around the diamond in between the on-rushing raindrops. Some in the Gotham press corps expressed displeasure with the gesture. And out of the swampland that is New York sports talk radio, there were even suggestions of plunking Papi in his next at-bat (Friday, July 19th at Fenway around 7:30 PM if you're keeping score). Have things become so silly in baseball that teams take offense at celebrations of mammoth homeruns? Amazingly, Joe Girardi had the same complaint against Ortiz almost exactly two years ago. Memo to Joe: start winning and you won't have to whine so much.

David Ortiz hit a no-doubter Sunday night off the Yankees Hiroki Kuroda. And if you were wondering, he doesn’t give any F’s what anyone else thinks. He’ll act like he hasn’t been there before. He’ll flip his bat however the heck he wants to. He’s Big Papi.
When Will Middlebrooks returns to the Red Sox lineup after a stint on the disabled list, Boston will have a tough decision to make.
What will the Sox do with Jose Isglesias? While the youngster’s career numbers in the minor leagues are nothing impressive, the shortstop-turned-utility-man has raked at the big-league level in 2013, to the tune of a .434 batting average.
The votes are in, and David Ortiz is leading the way for All-Star voting at his designated hitter position. Of course, there are still many votes remaining to be cast before he’s penciled into the starting American League lineup.
Big Papi has a big lead over the Rangers’ Lance Berkman at the DH position, with Ortiz’s 1,045,283 votes at first count dwarfing Berkman’s 672...
The Yankees are turning to Hiroki Kuroda (6-3, 2.39 ERA) in the rubber match against Boston after being blown out 11-1 Saturday night. Kuroda is the unsung hero of the Yankees pitching this season, pitching 7 scoreless innings against the Mets back on May 28th. He left the game with a no decision when Mariano Rivera blew his first save of the year. Boston is turning to their ace...
Jose Iglesias and David Ortiz each had solo home runs while Clay Buchholz allowed two hits in five innings to help the Boston Red Sox to a six inning rain-shortened win over the New York Yankees on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as
satisfying as a good morning dump.
All these intentional walks to David Ortiz are becoming a good move — for Mike Napoli and the Boston Red Sox, that is.
Napoli hit a grand slam right after Ortiz got a...
The Pawtucket Red Sox are riding high and have won three of their first four games on this homestand against the Syracuse Chiefs. Pawtucket will begin a four game homestand against the Charlotte Knights, who they defeated last fall to win their first Governor's Cup in 28 years. Currently, the Pawsox are first in the International League North Division with 35-23 record and...
The Red Sox greeted the Texas Rangers with an 19-hit attack in a 17-5 rout at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.
Boston got on the board quickly with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by David Ortiz and an RBI groundout by Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Pretty much the entire lineup got into the action as the Sox pounded out eight...
It could be safe to say that the real star of the game was the rain, the downpour that hit New York and ended the rubber game of the Red Sox and Yankees series in the 6th inning. While the start of the game was in question due to the rain, it was originally delayed 45 minutes before it got underway. Here are the 3 stars of the game:
Star 3: Jose...
Don’t expect to see Shane Victorino crashing into any outfield walls anytime soon.
Victorino is still out with a strained hamstring. His rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Pawtucket has been scratched. Manager John Farrell said Victorino is "still not running at 100 percent" and will not be activated from the DL when first eligible...
Nothing but positive notes from Fenway tonight as the Red Sox offense unloaded on Rangers starter Justin Grimm and maintained through the relievers, ultimately scoring 17 runs on 19 hits. Among the hits, the Sox had four homers -- including Jackie Bradley, Jr.'s, first career bomb -- and nine doubles. Six players had multi-hit efforts.
The highlight of the game has to be David...
Apologies for the Tater Trot Tracker being gone for a few days. I'm catching up on the trots right now. In the meantime, let's get right to Sunday's trots!

John Farrell might soon have a dilemma on his hands at third. According to NESN, Will Middlebrooks will soon be back, as his recovery from injury is going according to plan. On the other hand, Jose Iglesias has been hitting .435 with 3 RBI's so far, according to NESN. Not to mention his defense has been solid. According to NESN, Farrell wants to give Iglesias reps at second so...
Need to go on the Red Sox disabled list? Take a number, buddy. Boston is trying to avoid further clogging the DL by cautiously nursing a series of injuries to key players. Jacoby Ellsbury could return to the lineup as early as tonight from a "tight groin" that has kept him out since last Friday. Shane Vicrtorino is at "80 percent" after doing sprints in the outfield...
The Yankees are turning to Hiroki Kuroda in the rubber match tonight to take the series from undefeated Clay Buccholz and the Red Sox. With a win they will be one game out of first place, however, if they lose and the Orioles win they will be three games out and in third place.
