Found March 14, 2013 on Reading Between The Seams:
PLAYERS: Jim Leyland
TEAMS: Detroit Tigers
Tigers’ skipper Jim Leyland was featured in this funny animation about what he has for breakfast It is no secret that Jim Leyland likes to smoke cigarettes . Cartoonist Carl Skanberg, came up with a brilliant animation of the Detroit Tigers manager starting his morning. He calls it “The Jim Leyland Breakfast.” Imagine being around the Tigers’ skipper and having him exude cigarette smoke and coffee breath throughout the clubhouse. Skanberg  also added a donut to the list of breakfast items Leyland would eat in this clever animation piece. 2013 burning question: Detroit Tigers

Continuing from this morning's season preview of the Detroit Tigers... Just what are the Tigers going to do with their closer's job if Bruce Rondon doesn't grab the bull by the horns? The Tigers seem to be going with Rondon to start the year, and we touched on why their hesitation to go with Rondon is their fault after playing coy with the closer's job this...

Five spring training questions for Tigers

It's hard to believe but after Friday, the Detroit Tigers will have just 14 spring games left before they head north to start the regular season. While a lot of things were already settled before spring training started, there are a few more issues to be decided in the last two weeks. 1) Who will be the Tigers' closer? When the Tigers decided that Jose Valverde would not...

Cabrera homers in return from WBC

Miguel Cabrera homered on the first pitch he saw since returning from the World Baseball Classic and the Detroit Tigers beat Florida Southern 11-0 on Wednesday. Cabrera, who batted .333 with a homer for Venezuela in the WBC, arrived in camp on Tuesday and connected in his only at-bat against the Division II school. Anibal Sanchez struck out six in four hitless innings for the Tigers...

Brennan Boesch on Yanks radar

The list of outfielders competing for the vacant position left by the injured Curtis Granderson could grow, as Jon Heyman of CBSsports reports that the Yankees will consider looking at freshly released Brennan Boesch. Earlier this  morning the Tigers released Boesch, allowing him to a become a free agent should he clear waivers. If Boesch does clear waivers, the Tigers would owe...

Car trouble causes Prince Fielder to miss spring training game

It isn't uncommon for players to drive themselves to and from road games during spring training. Most of the stadiums are within a reasonable driving distance from one another. So, it was only a matter of time this spring that someone failed to arrive at the park because of car trouble. That someone was Detroit Tigers slugger Prince Fielder.Fielder was supposed to make the trip...

2013 X-Factor: Detroit Tigers

You know the stars on the Tigers: Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, and so on and so forth. Of course, none of them are really x-factors, but the Tigers still have plenty of players that are going to make an impact on their team this year that might be falling under the radar a little bit. My x-factor for the Detroit Tigers in 2013 is Alex Avila. Alex Avila...

You may say I'm a dreamer: Detroit Tigers

What else can baseball fans do in January but dream of October? In You May Say I'm a Dreamer, the Outside Corner staff will imagine the route to a World Series in 2013 title for all 30 teams. After falling short a year ago with a juggernaut roster, the Tigers took that same juggernaut roster into October and kicked the tar out of the best teams in baseball, winning the World...

Bouncing Back: Alex Avila

Like a lot of fantasy players, I’ll be waiting on drafting a catcher again this year. Catchers and closers are usually where I want to spend my last few picks or dollars, so I need to squeeze as much value out of them as I possibly can, hoping to hit big on a player that could just as likely end up on the wire in a month. There are a number of catchers who fall in this category...

Tigers SS Jhonny Peralta misses spring training game because of…clam chowder?

Of all the many crazy maladies, bizarre injuries and comic misfortunes that have sidelined baseball players, it’s safe to assume that before this week, never has a bowl of soup effectively sidelined a major league ballplayer. But that all changed thanks to Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta (not to be confused with Rays pitcher Joel Peralta, who had an unfortunate experience...

LAKELAND, Florida – The Detroit Tigers have officially cut ties with estranged outfielder Brennan Boesch. With the signing of OF Torii Hunter in the off-season, there were no remaining open spots in the Tiger outfield. Andy Dirks and Quintin Berry are in line to compete for the left field spot. Jhonny Peralta helps Tigers beat Blue Jays

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Jhonny Peralta hit his first home run of the spring, and Rick Porcello allowed four hits and two runs in five innings to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Friday. Porcello, competing with Drew Smyly for the final spot in the Tigers' rotation, struck out four. Porcello allowed Andy LaRoche's solo homer to Andy LaRoche in the...

Brennan Boesch Is Certainly Worth A Look For The Mets

We’re heading into the time in spring training when players get released, and the Mets should be all over this: Brennan Boesch was released this morning by the Tigers. He’s an outfielder. He has some power. And, he’s still breathing. What’s not to like? And, he’s coming off a strained oblique muscle, so he should fit right in with the Mets. Boesch is a lifetime .259...

Tigers take advantage of Gee's control problems

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Dillon Gee struggled with his command, giving up six runs in the New York Mets' 9-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Gee allowed three hits, four walks and hit two batters in two innings. He also threw three wild pitches. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run single in his first spring training game back since leaving to play for Venezuela in the...

Gee Rocked In A Wild 9-1 Loss To Tigers

The Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Mets this afternoon by the score of 9-1 at Tradition Field. Most of the damage came against starting pitcher Dillon Gee who was absolutely awful and completely out of sync. Gee had no control as evidenced by his four walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches in just two innings of work. He was charged with six earned runs and didn’t...
