For those of us with mlb.tv and a hankering to watch some baseball on a cold winter night Bill James has published his top 100 pitcher duels of last year at Grantland. No. 16 is Ricky Romero against James Shields on April 16 and there are three other Jays games featured including Henderson Alvarez beating Josh Beckett on Sept 5th - my favourite game of last year.
If anyone else has been, or is planning to, watch a few of last years Jays games over the winter, which ones have you been watching or are planning to watch? As well as the games on James' list, I'm planning to re-watch Joey Bats three-homer game against the Twins on May 15th and the Canada Day win over Cliff Lee.

Blue Jays web site now lists 23 Non-Roster Invitees for 2012 Spring training. The list includes 13 Pitchers and 10 Position players.

Mariner fans enjoyed 3 of the top 21 pitching duels in 2011, according to Bill James. James just published his list of the 100 best pitchers duels of 2011 on ESPN's Grantland site. In the last piece, we took at look at the American League pitching numbers to see which statistics correlated best with runs allowed. We noticed that when we put the numbers in certain pairs we see some pretty interesting results. Strikeout to walk ratio was the key statistic with the American League numbers. Let’s see if it’s the same with the National League.

Bill James lists his top 100 pitching duels of 2011. The most interesting tidbit comes at the end:
What did I really learn from doing this? One thing: Umpires’ mistakes are greatly magnified in a pitchers’ duel. If you look at ordinary games, maybe one in 50 turns on an umpire’s mistake. If the pitchers are dominant, it goes to more like one in ten.
