I am going to be perfectly honest here. I ran out of time to even start the scheduled “State of the Farm” post. I work Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and I was so caught up in the book work I was doing I lost track of time. With the winter meetings going on and the Rule 5 draft coming up, I am going to push that post to Friday.
Let’s use this post to talk about the rumors we are hearing and seeing.
The rumor of the day so far has been that the Reds are looking at trading Volquez for Huston Street. Huston Street is a quality closer, who both misses bats and avoids free passes. In terms of performance, he is exactly the kind of guy you want. The main issue however is that he is going to make $7.5M in 2012 and has a mutual option for $9M for 2013. I am of the belief that closers simply aren’t worth that much money, especially on a non-large market team who is spending 100+M on payroll. But, that is just my opinion. What do you guys think?
Other rumors are floating around for the Oakla...
