Sunday’s slate of afternoon action was highlighted by the Baltimore Orioles rookie left hander, Wei-Yin Chen.  Chen allowed three hits and one run with 12 strikeouts in five and two thirds innings pitched.  His performance helped the Orioles to a 6-1 win over the Oakland A’s today in Baltimore.

Chen’s 12 strikeouts were a career high and the win gives him a record of 9-6 this season.  There is no doubt this feat came as a surprise, but Chen has been progressing nicely in 2012 ever since he debuted against the New York Yankees back in April.

He currently possesses a 3.65 ERA, 105 strikeouts, and a 1.22 WHIP; not bad for a rookie.  Today’s performance should give him confidence going forward and he is most likely available in many leagues.  His next scheduled start is on Saturday, August 4th at Tampa.
