The Red Sox have just been swept in their last two series and headed to Seattle in hopes of getting their first win of the west coast road trip.  Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Sox and while he pitched well, the team would still end up with another loss at the end of 9 innings.

The game started off with a shimmer of potential when the Sox scored a run in the top of the 1st.  Dustin Pedroia continued his hot hitting with a double in the first and was scored by an RBI single from Cody Ross.  Sox 1-0.  It's the first time the Sox have had a lead in what seems like forever.  Buchholz was cruising right along until he hit the 4th inning and that is when things started to go all kinds of wrong.  Buchholz gave up a leadoff single to Gutierrez, hit Seager and then gave up an RBI single to Jaso to tie the game.  Sox 1-1.  Buchholz gave up the lead with an RBI single to Smoak.  Sox 1-2.  Next Buchholz got Thames to fly out and then Ellsbury made an errant throw to home which was not handled well by Lavarnway and another run scored.  Sox 1-3.  The final run of the inning scored with a fielding error by Jose Iglesias.  Sox 1-4.  Buchholz got out of the inning with a sick double play started by Iglesias, however the damage had already been done.

Buchholz kept battling and pitched himself a pretty decent game.  Buchholz ended up pitching 7 innings, however he didn't get any more run support from the offense.  Buch left the game in line for another loss.  His line for the night was 109 pitches, 7 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB and 8 Ks.  Rich Hill took the mound in the 8th and while he walked the first two batters he faced, he was able to get 2 outs on a lucky double play.  Hill was done for the night and Chris Carpenter took the mound in his Red Sox debut.  Carpenter issued a walk, but then got the groundout he needed to end the inning.

The Red Sox have now lost 7 straight games and are 12 games under 500.

Red Sox 1 Mariners 4 BOXSCORE
