Fox Sports Midwest:
(AP) -- Jake Westbrook owns the lowest ERA in baseball, but a visit to Wrigley Field could put that in jeopardy.
Westbrook looks to give the St. Louis Cardinals another strong effort on the mound in order to help them salvage a split of this two-game set with the archrival Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
The Cardinals (20-12) have the best rotation in baseball with a 2.22 ERA, and Westbrook (2-1, 1.07 ERA) is a big reason for that.
The right-hander, however, is 2-1 with a 6.14 ERA while allowing the Cubs to hit .305 over three starts at Wrigley. Overall, he's 5-2 with a 4.14 ERA in eight starts and won the most recent matchup on July 21, when he yielded three hits in seven innings of a 12-0 home victory.
Westbrook enters this matchup after yielding one run in 12 innings over his last two starts, earning a 6-5 win in the latest one at Milwaukee on Thursday. That marked the sinkerballer's 100th career victory.

BEST OF MAXIM
With five weeks of the 2013 minor league schedule on the books, there have been enough games played to begin to assess the seasons of some of the St. Louis Cardinals’ top prospects.
That was the subject of my Thursday afternoon discussion with Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com and RobRains.com. In our 10-minute chat, we touched on over a dozen of the best players in the Cardinals...
St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte had season-ending Tommy John surgery Tuesday.
Motte tweeted the ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow ''went well.''
''One day closer to getting back out there then yesterday,'' he wrote on Twitter.
The Cardinals announced before their game against the Cubs that they had activated first baseman Matt...
The bullpen of the St. Louis Cardinals, among the worst in baseball during the first three weeks of the season, has stabilized somewhat with the emergence of Edward Mujica as closer. In addition, Trevor Rosenthal has settled in and first-time call ups Carlos Martinez and Seth Maness have shown nicely.
The club recently logged a six-game winning streak, longer than any in 2012...
First baseman Matt Adams was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday by the St. Louis Cardinals. Missing time with an oblique strain, the big youngster looks to provide a solid bat when given an opportunity to be in the lineup.

The St. Louis Cardinals notched their Major League Baseball-leading 14th road victory Wednesday with a 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs and continued a trend that could pay off later in the season.
The Cardinals are 14-7 away from Busch Stadium and have won more games on the road than eight teams have won at all this season. That’s partially because the Cardinals have also played...
Cardinals pither Jason Motte underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Tuesday. The surgery was performed by team physician Dr. Georg Paletta and has been called a success according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
Motte attempted to rehab the torn ligament in his elbow initially but opted for surgery after experiencing a setback lat week.
The former closer will miss the...
As expected, the St. Louis Cardinals activated first baseman Matt Adams from the disabled list yesterday, according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com.
Not that this should be news but #STLCards have officially activated Matt Adams from the DL; Jermaine Curtis was sent down to Triple-A.

14-7 on the road?
Yup. That'll do. roughly 1/4 of the way through the season away from Busch, the Cardinals are pacing for a record-breaking road record. And when you win on the road, you go to the playoffs. It really is that simple.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to get the feeling that this team could (COULD) be one of the best in franchise...

The high-ceiling potential attached to the arm of Carlos Martinez has been no secret since he signed with St. Louis back in 2010. Three years and 260 MiLB innings later, a once raw 18-year old has made quick progress in the critical areas of mental maturity (strike throwing), mound intelligence (pitch selection) and off speed/breaking ball refinement...
Carlos Beltran and Jon Jay drove in two runs apiece, and the St. Louis Cardinals capped an impressive trip with a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
Beltran also had three hits as St. Louis won for the seventh time in eight games and improved to a major league-best 14-7 on the road. The Cardinals went 5-1 on a six-game swing to Milwaukee and Chicago, with the lone loss...
St. Louis Cardinals starter Lance Lynn entered Tuesday night's game at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs with an undefeated 5-0 record. But, thanks to a two-run home run off the bat of Nate Schierholtz in the fourth inning and a lackluster and quiet performance by the Cardinals offense, Lynn picked up his first loss of the season in a 2-1 defeat to the Cubs.
The St. Louis Cardinals have the best rotation in baseball, and Lance Lynn is leading the charge with a personal winning streak that's reached double digits.
Lynn goes for an 11th straight regular-season victory Tuesday night, when he tries to remain unbeaten against the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a two-game set at Wrigley Field.

The St. Louis Cardinals have one of the best pitching staffs in the majors, but they've also gotten plenty of help from their hitters during a red-hot stretch.
The Cardinals will try to keep rolling in their return from a six-game road trip Friday night by adding to their recent success against the Colorado Rockies.
St. Louis' 3.07 ERA is the best in the majors and its...
