The Pirates have a need at first base that they could fill through free agency this offseason. The names we have hard are Derrek Lee, Carlos Pena, Josh Willingham, along with some trade speculation including guys like Ike Davis and Kendry Morales. One name we haven't heard but could start hearing about soon is Michael Cuddyer. He and the Twins were in talks throughout the beginning of the offseason, but there's a good chance they won't reach an agreement now that the Twins have signed Josh Willingham to a three-year deal. That puts Cuddyer on the market, and the Pirates could be interested in taking a shot with him. Cuddyer is 32 years old with a .451 career slugging percentage. His 2011 season was actually better than his career average season as he hit .284/.346/.459. Cuddyer is mainly an outfielder but has played 210 games at first base in his 12 year career. The Pirates haven't exactly done anything this offseason to make us think they are serious about brin...

Report: All-Star Cuddyer to sign with Rockies

MINNEAPOLIS - It appears as if Michael Cuddyer's time with the Minnesota Twins is over. Minutes later, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported that Cuddyer has agreed to a new deal...

Twins Better Off Without Cuddyer

It wasn’t dire for the Minnesota Twins to re-sign Michael Cuddyer. Instead of bringing back the former first round pick, the Twins have reportedly agreed to a deal with Josh Willingham. Terry Ryan can talk all he wants, but Willingham’s signing seems to indicate that Cuddyer will have to find a new team this off-season. While fans might be upset about losing one of their...

Michael Cuddyer Player Projection No. 119

Key Stats: Cuddyer isn't a stud, but he is a guy I would like to have on my team. He has a career .272 AVG, has a 30 HR and 100 RBI season under his belt, and even contributed double digits in steals last year. Granted the level at which he has done this is inconsistent from year to year, but what makes him more valuable to us is his roster flexibility. Cuddyer is eligible at...

Assessing A Beltran, Cardinals Deal

The Rockies got Michael Cuddyer today, which fills their corner outfield gap and could be good news for the Cardinals. Colorado had been one of five teams with some interest in all-star outfielder Carlos Beltran, but with Cuddyer now in the fold, they're out; leaving the Blue Jays, Cardinals and two mystery teams on the list of interested teams. ESPN's Buster Olney said...

Twins' comings and goings: They all add up

Josh Willingham is a better bargain than Michael Cuddyer, and the Twins might still have room in their projected budget to keep Jason Kubel, too.
