Zack Wheeler is becoming the anti-Matt Harvey – he keeps getting wins.
Wheeler earned his fourth win in just his seventh career start this afternoon as the 23-year-old rookie delivered a decent performance in the Mets’ 7-4 win over the Braves at Citi Field. The righty was impressive at times and unimpressive at times ultimately allowing four runs but only three earned in six innings while striking out five.
Wheeler who only surrendered four hits but was tagged for two homers is 4-1 with a 3.72 ERA more than respectable for the heralded call-up. Unlike his fellow phenom Harvey Wheeler has gotten strong run support – the Mets have scored 43 runs for him in his seven games an average of just over six per contest. They’re now 20-13 since Wheeler was promoted on June 18 and they’ve won five of his seven starts.
Today the Met offense erupted racking up the seven runs on 14 hits and five walks. John Buck paced the attack with two hits including a double and three RBIs.
