LOOK. WHEN IS THE TEXAS RANGERS’ BRAIN TRUST GOING TO GET  IT THROUGH THEIR THICK SKULLS THAT ALEXI OGANDO ISN’T A STARTER? YESTERDAY MARKED THE THIRD TIME THIS SEASON THAT HE’S LANDED ON THE DL. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? SINCE HE’S A RELIEVER BY TRADE, IT TELLS ME THAT HE ISN’T CUT OUT PHYSICALLY TO BE A STARTING PITCHER. EVEN WHEN HEALTHY HE JUST ABOUT NEVER MAKES IT THROUGH  A FULL SIX INNINGS AND ON THE ULTRA-RARE OCCAISIONS WHEN HE DOES, HE GETS SHELLED. BEFORE RON WASHINGTON AND HIS STAFF GOT THE BRIGHT IDEA TO CONVERT HIM INTO A STARTER, ALEXI SERVED AS A LONG RELIEVER, A BRIDGE GUY AND OCCASIONALLY A CLOSER IF NEFTALI FELIZ (ALSO ON THE DL FOR THE SAME REASON AS OGANDO IN MY OPINION) WASN’T AVAILABLE. AND HE WAS PRETTY GOOD IN THAT CAPACITY. BUT NOW THAT THE RANGERS DECIDED TO FORCE ALEXI INTO STARTING GAMES FOR THEM HIS BODY’S BEGUN FALLING APART—HIS INFLAMED SHOULDER BEING THE LATEST CASE IN POINT. IF WASHINGTON & COMPANY INSIST ON KEEPING OGANDO IN THIS ROLE I THINK THEY’LL END UP BONING THEMSELVES OUT OF A STARTER, A LONG RELIEVER A SET-UP GUY, AND  A POTENTIAL CLOSER, SO HELP ME JOBA CHAMBERLAIN…   JUST SAYIN’   CLIFFORD SANTA MONICA

Rangers' Alexi Ogando back on DL

Texas Rangers' pitcher Alexi Ogando, who last pitched on August 13, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation around a nerve in his right shoulder. As reported by T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, Ogando was placed on the disabled list because it was determined by the Rangers that he would miss more than one start. He is eligible to come off the DL on August 29. ...

Elvis Andrus and the Texas Rangers walk off

Yesterday, while bugging a friend of mine to come hang out instead of watching his favorite MLS team play, I received the following text message: “Please! You are the guy who watches a sport which doesn’t have a time limit. My game will be over soon.” Well, he does have a point. As George Carlin once said while comparing football and baseball, “Football is rigidly timed,...

He will remain in Double A with the Cubs, who have assigned him to Double-A Tennessee. When the trade was made, Ramirez was...

Texas' Feliz improving, could be back next month

It's looking more and more like right-hander Neftali Feliz will be returning to the Texas Rangers sometime next month, just in time for the stretch run. Rangers manager Ron Washington said before Friday's game against the White Sox in Chicago that Feliz still has several tests to pass, but is optimistic the hard-throwing hurler will be coming back. Feliz has been undergoing...

Stassi was bleeding when he left the game and was scheduled to spend the night...

Today in Sports History – Rangers Score 30 Runs, Win by 27

On this day in 2007, the baseball world saw a beating like it had never seen before. The Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 30-3, setting a record for the most runs scored by a team in modern MLB history. The Rangers trailed, 3-0, then scored, to the shock of even their own fans, 30 unanswered runs. It was the first time since 1900, thought of as the beginning of the...

Beltre delivers again as Rangers beat Astros 4-2

No matter how quickly the right shoulder of Alexi Ogando heals the fifth spot in the Texas Rangers’ rotation will remain an uncertainty the rest of the season. Travis Blackley got the first crack Tuesday at replacing Ogando who has hit the disabled list for a third time and the left-hander kept the game close against his former team the Houston Astros. Being within striking distance...

He signed a minor-league deal with the New...

The Texas Rangers Are Traveling at Light Speed

With the Texas Rangers, it has not really been a matter of if they would make a move for the strangle-hold of the American League West, it was a matter of when. Now that we are in the dog days of summer, it is clear that the Rangers have picked August to be the month where they made their move. They are 15-4 this month, including an 8-game winning streak during the heart of August...

Rangers 4, Astros 2

Adrian Beltre just keeps chugging along for the Texas Rangers. He's making it look oh so easy, too. Beltre doubled and scored in the second inning, and then hit a two-run homer in the sixth to power AL West-leading Texas to a 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. ''This is what I'm supposed to be doing, right?'' Beltre said. ''I&...

Rangers Taking Advantage Of Opportunities

As the Texas Rangers enjoyed their off day on Thursday, the team had a lot to reflect on and look forward to at the same time. The August schedule was a time that was looked at as a chance to pick up some momentum and carry it through the rest of the season. The Rangers have definitely taken advantage, as they have complied a 15-4 record during the month. This stretch has the team...

Rangers escape 5-4 after pitching falters late vs. Astros

Derek Holland reached deep into the file of Things That Should Never Happen in the seventh inning Wednesday night. The left-hander opened the frame by allowing a single that grazed his forearm and then walked the next two batters all while nursing a two-run lead over the worst team in baseball. Somehow the Texas Rangers emerged with the lead. Then Tanner Scheppers dipped into...

Rangers 5, Astros 4

Elvis Andrus had never stepped up to bat with a fifth infielder staring in at him. He still knew exactly what he wanted to do when it happened to him for the first time Wednesday night. With the bases loaded and one out - and with Astros left fielder Chris Carter moved in to play first base - Andrus sent a ball soaring into left-center field for sacrifice fly that scored pinch runner...
