Chicago White Sox Baseball — Matt Lindstrom is the current Chicago White Sox closer and through 14 games, he has looked far from it. Daniel Webb who has been solid in five appearances, looks confident and showed it again last night. In a tie ball game with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Webb was asked to get the final out. He promptly did and the White Sox went on to win in the bottom of the 9th. Was this a sign that Daniel’s chance as a closer is near? Would Matt Lindstrom have got that final out or make it look easy if he did? Bullpen Issues Nate Jones who seemed to be the frontrunner in Spring Training, has been dealing with injuries and was awful trying to pitch through it. He is currently rehabbing but there is no timetable yet for his return. Jones will be good once he gets healthy and works out a few kinks and he could be a good closer given the chance, but for fans hopefully the solution is fixed before then. Lindstrom can be solid too but he doesn’t seem to fit the closer role, not sure if the pressure gets to him or not but he might be better suited in relief or set-up role. He has the most closing experience, but he never makes fans comfortable, his career WHIP gives you a reason why, along with his blown saves this year. Sox fans want the bullpen to right themselves and fast. So while hoping for success of Jones, Lindstrom and the rest of the relievers it’s inevitable; if it’s broke, it’s got to be fixed. Change Is Coming Matt Lindstrom is 1-3 in save situations and while he no doubt has a leash, if he blows another save or two it’s time to hand the ball to Webb. Closers change all the time in baseball, it’s part of the game. If one guy struggles, next man up until you find the answer. The Chicago White Sox bullpen has been awful so far but last night was hopefully the turning point. Change shouldn’t come after the fact (another blown save) but rather when you see a pitcher that looks ready, and that guy is Daniel Webb. Determination Daniel Webb throws hard, looks determined and has the right attitude. It seems like Lindstrom was handed the job because of his experience rather than his performance or grit. Granted that Robin Ventura has to give his guys a chance, but if Lindstrom continues to struggle, Webb needs to become the guy. “I always wanted to be a closer since I was switched to the pen,” said Webb “It is now a goal of mine some day. Until that time I will go ahead and work hard at whatever role they have for me.” Prediction: Daniel Webb is closing by end of April Source: CBS Local Author informationAdam BernardFeatured Columnist at Sports MockeryTwitterFacebookGoogle+The post When Will Daniel Webb Be Closing? appeared first on Sports Mockery.
