If I were to tell you that the Angels once traded for a scrawny catcher who in his first four seasons in Major League Baseball averaged only 6 HR’s and 34 RBI’s while hitting only .251, you would think the Halos re-acquired Jeff Mathis wouldn’t you? As good of a guess as that would have been, you would have been wrong. The Angel player I am referring to is actually the great Brian Downing. During his playing days in an Angel’s uniform, Downing could best be described as a fearsome hitter whose powerful bat and determination to win endeared him not only to Angel fans but to Gene Autry himself. Believe it or not, Downing was never supposed to be as good as he actually was. As a matter of fact, while attending Magnolia High School in Anaheim, CA, Downing tried out for the school team. Downing successfully made the team but received practically no playing time and was actually cut. Downing would go on to graduate from high school and enroll...

2012 Los Angeles Angels Catching Depth
By Robert Cunningham - AngelsWin.com Feature Writer
Major league managers, coaches, and scouts always talk about the importance of pitching depth. However, and perhaps just as importantly, catching depth is also critical to a team’s success. The Angels have created a catching corps of Chris Iannetta, Hank Conger, and Bobby Wilson to provide Mike Scioscia with options for the 2012...

2012 Player Preview: Maicer Izturis
2011 wasn't Maicer Izturis' greatest season, but it was far from his worst. More important than his production though was that for the first time in a long time, Izturis stayed healthy for an entire season. Can he do it again in 2012? Do the Angels even need him to?
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to the early start, not all stat projection systems are available yet,...
The Angels 2012 payroll according to WAR
Much has been made of the Angels and all the crazy money they doled out this off-season. That is as it should be since the Halos have been spending money like some redneck in trailer park who just won the lottery. (Did I just accidentally imply that Jerry Dipoto is trailer trash? I think I did, oops! Not my intention at all. Sorry, JeDi.)
Anyway, I figured if everyone is going...
Trade Candidates – AL West Edition
By Bob Owens
Let’s see how I will (un)settle the West.
LA Angels of Anaheim – Peter Bourjos.
Technically not my idea, as John mentioned him as a possibllity a week ago, and there have been rumors that he could goto Washington for some pitching. But the Angels seem to think Mike Trout is ready, and that makes Bourjos trade bait, and attractive trade bait at that.
Oakland...
Who's got the best rotations?
DeMarco's Mailbag: Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Albert Pujols' new team the Los Angeles Angels head the list.
