Today, we examine Kelly Johnson and a second base position that is currently in flux for the organization. Previously considered Aaron Hill’s territory, Johnson heads into the off-season as the incumbent but, like Hill, is a free agent.
However, before breaking the position down, a quick word on the hullabaloo over John Farrell and his involvement in the Red Sox managerial search:

This was similar to the decision of the club in 2002 when Boston was eyeing J.P. Ricciardi as they pursued a new GM – Ricciardi was an unmitigated disaster in Toronto, while the BoSox did pretty well for themselves after bringing Theo Epstein on board, but the move sent a message that the Jays would not be compliant in serving as a minor league feeder system for their AL East rivals. Blue Jays Change Policy, Won't Allow Manager John Farrell to Leave for Lateral Move With Red Sox
Previously, if you no longer wanted to be a part of the Toronto Blue Jays organization, you were free to leave. With manager John Farrell's name being hotly discussed as a potential candidate to fill the vacancy in Boston, the club is changing its rules. Blue Jays president Paul Beeston and general manager Alex Anthopoulos issued a joint statement that made it clear that the...
Toronto will let Farrell leave if he wants to
Yesterday the Globe's Pete Abraham tweeted something interesting:
"Here's what's interesting about the John Farrell rumors: Nobody has said no."
It's a good point. Plenty of people are speculating whether he'd be interested in returning to the Boston bench, this time as Tito's replacement, as he was once thought to be. Farrell's been asked...
Blue Jays Considering Going After Big Papi
Boston HeraldComing off an 81-81 season and with money to spend, the Toronto Blue Jays “will not rule out” making a strong push for David Ortiz, a major-league source said today. In fact, Ortiz could conceivably be a good fit north of the border.Ortiz would be a lefty-hitting, middle-of-the-order complement to fellow slugger Jose Bautista, for whom he has come to have great respect...
Farrell-to-Boston may still have some life
What seems to be the most ideal fit in Boston may still be a possibility according to Tony Massarotti. Mazz is confident that the possibility that John Farrell becoming the Sox manager is "definitely not dead". Despite a change in policy in Toronto and earlier reports that Farrell is staying put, Mazz still believes we have not heard the end.
"[Farrell to the Sox...
2011 Positional Review: Outfielders
So, long past time (if you consider my usual schedule) we commence the prospect positional reviews, beginning this year with the outfielders. Same caveats as always apply: rankings can shift at any time, and closely ranked players are pure judgement calls. If player A is #7 and B is #17, that's noteworthy...but if Player B is #8, don't get too worked up about that.(age is...
Blue Jays: Farrell can't leave laterally to Red Sox
The Toronto Blue Jays are keeping manager John Farrell under wraps.
The Blue Jays issued a statement on Tuesday which declared that employees will not be permitted to leave for the same job in another organization. The decree essentially blocks a move by Farrell to the AL East rival Boston Red Sox.
"Due to the distraction caused by media speculation regarding our employee...

The Boston Herald, citing a major league source, reported that the Blue Jays will not rule out attemping to sign Ortiz.
Ortiz, who will turn 36 next month, just completed the final season of a four-year contract with Boston.
The left-handed-hitting Ortiz had a strong season, batting .309 with 29 home...

Jays change policy; Farrell not going anywhere
On Tuesday, amidst rampant rumors that the Red Sox might be interested in bringing John Farrell back to his former organization, Toronto announced a change in its employee policy. The Blue Jays made it clear that Farrell will not be managing their American League East rivals any time soon.
Farrell situation a win-win for the Blue Jays
With much talk in the last three days regarding the possibility of John Farrell moving from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Boston Red Sox, the issue of Farrell's situation with the Jays seems to have slanted altogether.
If I recall, it was only a matter of weeks ago that there was a sect of Blue Jays fans and pundits that didn't seem to care much for Farrell's status with...
