In a new offseason feature BHC writers will explore the possible landing spots for high priced free agents. In the third edition of “Where Will He Sign” the staff analysed the possible teams in play for the services of second baseman Masahiro Tanaka. Brendan Pannikar @Panikkar37: Many people feel that Masahiro Tanaka is not a game changing pitcher like Yu Darvish but is better than Daisuke Matsuzaka. Tanaka is in between these two players though his numbers in Japan do show otherwise. Tanaka is 25 years old and ended this past regular season with a 24-0 record with a 1.27 ERA and if you add in the post-season, Tanaka was 30-0. His numbers will command a high bid process and expect the winning bid to be around Yu Darvish type numbers. However, something just screams at me that Tanaka isn’t the same and won’t be the same as Darvish, just a gut feeling. Regardless, teams interested in him could be the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners...

Can We Get Over Trading Matt Kemp?

Rodney Dangerfield and Matt Kemp have a lot in common these days; they both don’t get no respect. After the 2011 season it felt as if Matt Kemp could do no wrong. He was humble in his second place MVP voting against cheater Ryan Braun, 1 home run shy of being a 40-40 man and a major presence on and off the field. In 2012, hit still showed his pop, despite injury, and while taking...

Robinson Cano Won't Budge From $310 Million

It wasn’t long ago that there were reports saying Robinson Cano wasn’t actually seeking $310 million. People said that he and his agent (Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports) had offered a 10-year, $310 million contract to the Yankees early in the summer, hoping that they’d overspend for the second baseman. Since that hadn’t happened, people thought that Cano would start from the...

Yankees Considering a Reunion with Raul Ibanez

Raul Ibanez has played 18 seasons, and only one was with the New York Yankees. Yet after that season (2012), the pinstripes took too long to offer Ibanez another contract, and he bolted for Seattle, to enjoy his third stint with the team that drafted him. For understandable reasons, many people in the Yankees organization felt letting Ibanez go was a mistake. Their answer...

Yankees Hot Stove: Top 4 rumors to smackdown

Every offseason the rumors surrounding the possible targets of the New York Yankees are abundant. Bronson Arroyo (Photo credit: Wikipedia) But following a demoralizing 2013 season, things on the hot stove are getting silly, as the team seems to be interested in everybody and anybody available except the legit superstars. Add that to the fact that inherited owner Hal Steinbrenner...

Levine to testify at A-Rod hearing

Yankees President Randy Levine has been told to be ready to testify Tuesday at Alex Rodriguez's grievance hearing to overturn his 211-game suspension. The hearing resumed Monday before arbitrator Fredric Horowitz, who presided over the 10th session Tuesday. Horowitz also heard the case from Sept. 30-Oct. 3 and Oct. 15-18. MLB and the players' association appear to be trying...

Jay-Z is Influencing Robinson Cano's Offseason

Take a guess as to the contract that Robinson Cano gets this offseason. Go ahead, guess. Your estimate is as good as ours, is as good as Brian Cashman’s, is as good as Jay-Z’s, is as good as Robinson Cano’s. And after you’ve guessed, wait. And wait. And wait. It appears as though Robinson Cano is content to sit in the puddle of free agency until he sees the...

Phil Hughes, Bargain Free Agent?

New York Yankees starting pitcher Phil Hughes struggled mightily in 2013. Over 29 starts and 145.2 innings, he posted a 5.19 ERA and surrendered 24 home runs. The Yankees won just 12 of his 29 starts, and Hughes himself had an ugly 4-14 record. For the blue chip prospect that he was, Hughes’ career has been something of a disappointment. As a starter, he has a 4.48 FIP and just...

Rodriguez resumes arbitration hearing at MLB headquarters

Showing little sign of the illness that KO'd him from a scheduled meeting with nemesis Major League Baseball Friday, Alex Rodriguez emerged from a black SUV Monday morning at 9 sharp, ready to resume his contentious arbitration hearing at baseball's Park Avenue offices, where his legal team opened its defense. "Hi guys, how are you? I'm excited to get back in there...

Yankees interested in adding Javier Lopez to their bullpen

The New York Yankees quickly became interested in the relief pitcher market this fall after Boone Logan became a free agent.  Logan, who underwent a minor elbow procedure in October, is still on the Yankees radar.  The team is leaving other options open and reaching out to other candidates. As reported by Andy McCullough at nj.com, the Yankees and veteran left-handed reliever Javier...

MLB-Japan league snag puts star in limbo

Robinson Cano is the best free-agent position player on the market. His representatives -- including entertainment mogul Jay-Z -- are deep enough into their offseason planning that they had a dinner meeting with the New York Mets on Monday. Masahiro Tanaka is Cano's counterpart among pitchers, the most sought-after arm on the open market ... except that his market isn't...

Mets, Jay Z hold secret meeting about Cano

Robinson Cano a Met? It sounds outlandish on the surface, but Cano put his best man on the job Monday night. Yes, it turns out Jay Z is as hands-on as promised. So hands-on he’s willing to shop his client across the RFK Bridge into Flushing. The hip-hop impresario joined Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, general manager Sandy Alderson and assistant general manager John Ricco for dinner at...

Jay Z to be “Intimately Involved” in Robinson Cano’s Free Agent Negotiations

And the winner is Hov………. Jay Z may not be able to be Robinson Cano’s direct agent, but apparently he still will have some sort of hand in the free agent’s free agent negotiations. Per New York Daily News: “That has been true for the last six months and it’s certainly true now,” Van Wagenen […]
