Jake Peavy struck out eight over eight smooth innings, Alejandro De Aza gave Chicago the lead in the eighth with an infield single off Scott Diamond's leg and the White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2 on Wednesday.
Peavy (9-7) allowed five hits and walked two. One of the runs he gave up was unearned, due to a way-wide token pickoff throw to second base in the first inning that sailed into center field. That miscue let Ben Revere move to third, and he scored on Joe Mauer's groundout.
Danny Valencia homered in the second, but Peavy toughened up after that and had trouble in only two more innings. Denard Span lined into a double play with a runner on third to end the fifth. Mauer popped out to finish the eighth with speedsters Span on third and Revere on first.

Not to be outdone by newcomer Francisco Liriano’s strong performance on Tuesday, Jake Peavy dominated on the mound in the series finale as the Chicago White Sox won 3-2.
Peavy gave up only one earned run over eight innings. After letting up one run in each of the first two innings (one resulting from a Peavy error), the hurler crushed the Minnesota offense for the remainder of...
The Chicago White Sox were hoping that the final late-season addition to the rotation would come from within, with the return of left-hander John Danks from the disabled list. That won't be happening. Danks will have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, the team announced Tuesday. He had been sidelined since May 20 due to a shoulder strain, and he experienced a setback...
Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Alex Wimmers will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday on his right elbow, the team announced Thursday.Wimmers was Minnesota's first-round pick (21st overall) out of Ohio State in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. MINNEAPOLIS Denard Span was sweating it.
The Twins center fielder read Twitter and saw his name mentioned in trade rumors, and received texts from family and friends about it.But 3 p.m. rolled around Tuesday, and Span wasn't dealt. He remained a Minnesota Twin. So, too, did the rest of his teammates, as Minnesota stood pat on the final day before baseball's non-waiver...
MINNEAPOLIS Everything about it looked strange as Francisco Liriano took the mound Tuesday. The black and gray uniform. The No. 58.Oh, and not to mention, he was pitching to A.J. Pierzynski, a catcher he was once traded for.Yet here Liriano was, making his White Sox debut three days after the Minnesota Twins traded him to rival Chicago. During his seven seasons with the Twins, Liriano...
Somehow, some way, Samuel Deduno is 3-0 for the Minnesota Twins.Deduno stymied the Boston Red Sox on Thursday in just his fifth career start, holding them to only two hits in six scoreless innings as the Twins beat Boston 5-0 at Fenway Park. Oddly enough, Deduno threw fewer than half of his pitches for strikes. He finished with 101 pitches in six innings; only 50 of them went for...
Alex Wimmers is the latest Minnesota Twins pitching prospect sent for Tommy John surgery.
The Twins said Wimmers had the ligament replacement operation on his right elbow performed Thursday in Minneapolis by team physician Dr. Dan Buss.
The right-hander was Minnesota's first-round draft pick in 2010, out of Ohio State, but he has logged only 62 1-3 innings in the minors. He...
MINNEAPOLIS Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig was at Target Field on Tuesday to speak at a luncheon for the 20th anniversary of the RBI World Series, which will be hosted by the Minnesota Twins.
Inevitably, Selig was asked about the MLB All-Star Game in 2014. Selig has yet to announce where that year's All-Star Game will be hosted, but many indications are that Target...
Samuel Deduno allowed two hits in six innings in his third straight strong performance and the Minnesota Twins spoiled a rare solid outing by Jon Lester and beat the Boston Red Sox 5-0 on Thursday night.
Brian Dozier had three hits for Minnesota, including a two-run homer in the ninth.
Deduno, making his sixth major league start, has given up just two earned runs and 10 hits in...
After dropping their second straight to the pathetic Minnesota Twins, the Orioles had fallen to 46-44. After being 39-27 and on top of the world, the O’s had lost 17 of their last 24 games. I assumed that the eventual freefall that O’s fans have become accustomed to had begun and another 90 loss season [...]
BOSTON -- Minnesota right-hander Sam Deduno, making just his fifth major league start this season, flummoxed the Red Sox at Fenway Park Thursday night as the Twins beat Boston 5-0. Deduno went six innings, allowing just two hits, with four walks and a strikeout, to earn the win. He improved to 3-0, lowering his ERA to 2.48. It was the first time the Twins shut out the Sox...
MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Twins third baseman Danny Valencia has only been back in the majors for five games, so the sample size is small. But after a home run Wednesday in a 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox, it appears Valencia's bat may be coming back after spending most of the season with Triple-A Rochester.
Valencia took White Sox starter Jake Peavy deep in the second inning...
