It figures someone would have to pay for the White Sox's awful season and the first one to fall was hitting coach Jeff Manto. General manager Rick Hahn announced after Saturday's 6-5 victory over the Royals that Manto had been relieved of his duties. Harold Baines will handle Manto's duties in Sunday's season finale. "The decision to relieve him of his duties is not one we take lightly" Hahn said. "And it is not an indictment of his work ethic his knowledge or how good of a baseball man he is." Hahn said the rest of the coaching staff would remain intact. He already has a list of candidates to replace Manto and hopes to have a new hitting coach within the next couple of months. "Beginning next week we will begin contacting individuals both inside and outside the organization" Hahn said. "I don't think we are going to rule out anyone based on their background however as I sit here right now I think the ideal candidate will ve...

White Sox conclude 99 loss season

Eight years ago, the Chicago White Sox won 99 games. Paul Konerko smacked 40 homers, the pitching staff was reminiscent of the dead ball era and Carl Everett believed in dinosaurs. What a difference eight years can make. Sadly, the only part of that statement that remains true this day is probably the last part. The White Sox concluded what was not just a disappointment of a season...

Alex Gordon fakes out entire stadium on catch

The White Sox have stumbled through a miserable 2013 season, finishing in the basement of the American League Central division with one of the worst records in baseball. There haven’t been very many causes for celebration at U.S. Cellular Field, but the South Siders are jumping at any chance they see to cue the fireworks — even if the result is complete and utter confusion. During...

Hahn expects Ventura to return next season

It looks as if Robin Ventura will manage the Chicago White Sox again next season. It's still unclear if Paul Konerko will be on Ventura's lineup card. General manager Rick Hahn said Friday he expects Ventura to return in 2014, and he plans to give Konerko some time to decide whether he wants to play next year. The White Sox are last in the AL Central at 62-97 heading into...

2013 Silver Lining: Avi Garcia Bursts Onto the Scene

If you're as bad as the 2013 Chicago White Sox and have the opportunity to acquire as many assets as Rick Hahn & co. did, you better connect on at least one guy to inspire hope for the future. And it looks like that's exactly the case with Avisail Garcia. Since coming over from Detroit in a three-way deal that sent starter Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox,...

Konerko will take a month to consider retirement

White Sox move on after one of worst seasons

The Chicago White Sox envisioned big things. Instead, they were a big flop. White Sox slip past Royals 6-5

The Chicago White Sox had a power surge on Saturday night. But the offensive production in the 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals has been a rarity this season, and that was evident after the game when the team announced that hitting coach Jeff Manto had been fired. The White Sox avoided 100 losses for the season with the win, but it wasn't enough to save Manto's job....
