Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen says Jake Peavy will be shut down for the remainder of the season, just two days after insisting that the veteran righthander would make at least one more start.Peavy admitted he still isn't at full strength following major shoulder surgery, and the White Sox don't want to risk aggravating the injury. The 30-year-old looked good in his last outing of the year, throwing 6 1/3 shutout innings in a victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.Guillen previously said that Peavy would be shut down when the White Sox were officially out of contention.Chicago enters Saturday's action 9 1/2 games back of division-leading Detroit with 19 games remaining.Peavy finishes the year 7-7 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 starts.
