The Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners played one wacky game at Safeco Field on Wednesday afternoon. Final score : White Sox 7, Mariners 5 (16 innings). Score after 13 innings : 0-0. Score after 14 innings : 5-5. Unreal : Kyle Seager's game-tying grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 14th for the Mariners. Seager became the major leaguer to tie a game in extra innings with a grand slam. It was unfortunate for the White Sox, who were on an eight-game losing streak, but it was more unfortunate for this young fan in the bleachers. The idiot who plows the kid over shouldn't be allowed into a baseball game, again! Now, back to some unique facts: First time in MLB history : A team scored five runs or more in the 14th inning or later to tie a game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. First time II : Both teams scored five-plus runs in a game after being held scoreless through nine innings, according to Elias. Tying a mark : The 12 extra-inning runs by both teams matched an AL record. Time : Five hours, 42 minutes. Total pitches : 493 (245 through nine innings, 248 in extra innings). Some people in Vegas probably weren't happy -- and some likely were. White Sox / Mariners under 7 today was a brutal beat beat.0-0 through 13 and the final score was 7-5 in 16. -- Adam B (@PhatBud) June 6, 2013 Would you believe ? This wasn't the first time the Mariners hosted the White Sox and the two failed to score in the first 13 innings. On Aug. 12, 2009 , Ken Griffey Jr. -- who years later would play for the ChiSox -- doubled in the winning run with two outs as Seattle claimed a 1-0 victory. On Wednesday, the South Siders evened the score.
