The news on the field Friday wasn't great for the Chicago White Sox, who lost 8-3 at home in an interleague game against the Houston Astros.

The news off the field on the injury front was worse, with manager Robin Ventura admitting that there is something more going on with Brent Morel and his back issues, as Morel pulled himself out of Thursday's game with Class AAA Charlotte and was headed back to Chicago.

Morel was on rehab assignment with Charlotte, and he lasted just one at-bat in Thursday's game before shutting it down. Over nine games in Class AAA, Morel has hit .267 (8-for-30) with no RBI.

"I'm pretty sure he's on his way here (Friday night) or (Saturday) to get checked out," Ventura said. "There's something else going on there, so it's a setback."

The plan was for Morel to do his rehab stint with Charlotte, then return to the Sox to get his starting job back, despite recently signed Orlando Hudson enjoying some heroic moments since taking his place a few weeks ago.

With Morel likely sidelined longer, Hudson, along with Brent Lillibridge and Eduardo Escobar, will all work over at third, with Hudson continuing to get a majority of the action. Despite none of the three being a true third baseman, general manager Ken Williams felt Hudson could lead that group, just with his experience alone.

As for the possibility of Williams swinging a trade, "It has to be the right fit and it has to be the right person for him to be able to do that," Ventura said. "We talk about different things all the time, not necessarily subtracting or adding players, but there's conversation going on all the time.

"It's one of the constants of being in this position for me and being at this level with these guys. Everybody is evaluated. Ideas are thrown around."

Even with the loss Friday, the Sox are still 10-4 since Hudson was brought on board.
