The month of September hasn't been to kind to the Boston Red Sox the past three seasons. The  team hasn't made the playoffs since 2009, but the Red Sox enter the month of September with a 81-56 record, best in the American League. Despite that Boston is playing well, it's hard not to remember what happened two seasons ago.  In 2011, the Red Sox lost 20 of their last 27 games. The team still had a chance on the last day of the season to earn a postseason berth, but lost a heartbreaker to the Baltimore Orioles. Even last season, the Red Sox had a horrible finish as the team finished 7-19 in September. So what's different about this team compared to the last two seasons. The Red Sox have a manager in John Farrell that knows how to manager a team in Boston in September. Farrell was the team's pitching coach from 2006-2010 and Boston went to the playoffs in three seasons  (2007,2008,2009), and won a World Series title in 2007 while he was there.
