Reds center fielder Drew Stubbs is on the brink of eclipsing one of the least desired records in all of professional sports -- the Major League Baseball, single-season strikeout record as a hitter.

Through 519 trips to the dish this season the 26-year old has whiffed an MLB-leading 156 times. That total is 10 more than the next closest batter who happens to be former Red and current White Sox DH Adam Dunn (146). But to be fair, Stubbs has also accumulated the 5th-most plate appearances of any player in the National League.
Nonetheless, at his current rate, Stubbs is pacing to tally a whopping 212 punchouts for the 2011 campaign. This number would place him #2 on the all time, single-season strikeout list behind only Mark Reynolds, who fanned on 223 occasions as an Arizona Diamondback in 2009.
