If you’re anything like me you’re always looking ahead to see what
or where you’ll be in a year from now. I always felt I was tailor made for MLB
management. In 2012 the Red Sox indulged my futuristic aptitude by providing us a look at the future of the Red Sox organization. What we witnessed was a
silver lining in the midst of a disastrous and disappointing year.
That silver lining, the one that granted us a
sneak peek into the Red Sox future, is none other than newly minted third
baseman Will Middlebrooks.
In 2007 Middlebrooks was drafted in the fifth
round by the Red Sox and made his professional debut in 2008 with the Lowell
Spinners. He worked his way through the organization's minor league system
until May 2, 2012 when he was promoted to the major leagues. That same day Middlebrooks made his Red Sox debut starting at third base - Kevin Youkilis was placed on the disabled list.
The 24-year old third baseman had a breakout rookie season with the Red Sox in 2012. Unf...

The writing was on the wall, but it's now official, as Scott Atchison has signed on with a team other than the Red Sox (and not actually in Japan!), as the Mets agreed to a minor-league deal with the reliever (via MLBTR).
I'll miss Atch. We paid him next to nothing (less than $1.4 million per B-R) and got three solid years out of him. The first two years he appeared in low...
Ryan Sweeney‘s first season in Boston wasn’t exactly the smoothest campaign, but with very little to lose, bringing him back makes sense for the Red Sox.
Sweeney got off to a surprisingly torrid start in 2012, hitting .373 (25-for-67) through his first 19 games. After that, he fell back down to earth. The outfielder suffered a concussion while sprawling out for a ball in Philadelphia...
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters,
including Alex Speier of WEEI.com, that the team could add a player or two
before the start of camp to improve its depth at first base.
"The one area that we probably need to get a feel for
is at first base," said manager John Farrell. "We fully expect Napoli
to be ready to go, but if a need were to arise...
Daniel Nava didn’t make his big league debut until he was 27, and he has since spent plenty of time bouncing back and forth between Boston and Triple-A Pawtucket. So when it comes to carving out a role for the Red Sox this season, the outfielder is willing to do anything it takes to stay in The Show.
The Red Sox apparently haven’t approached Nava about playing first base, though...
Did anyone open their newspaper today and find this gem inside? We have to give credit to the Sox for trying to make things right with the fans, but the push for tickets down at the bottom is what should make you a little upset. All of the headlines that surround the organization right now are centered around the fact that ownership puts baseball second and...
On Saturday, January 26th, 2013, the Pawtucket Red Sox opened their doors for their annual Hot Stove Event. Over 800 fans showed their support throughout the day by braving the cold and waiting patiently to meet top Red Sox Prospects. Outfielder Jackie Bradley, Jr (#2 in the Red Sox organization according to Baseball America), pitcher Allen Webster (#4), infielder Justin Henry and...
Tough news coming from Yahoo!Sports a few hours ago, as Red Sox outfielder Ryan Kalish will undergo shoulder surgery. According to the source, Kalish is expected to miss Spring Training and a possible return-time has yet to be announced. Kalish missed much of last season recovering from a surgery that repaired a torn labrum in his left shoulder last winter.
Pawtucket, RI- Just listening to top Red Sox prospect Jackie Bradley, Jr converse with fans on Saturday was enough to know how genuine he is. His willingness to make eye contact, share a laugh or shake a hand of a fan helped make the day for 800 plus fans at McCoy stadium. Talking to Bradley is no different; he is humble, ready to learn and excited for the season to begin. Bradley...
The Boston Red Sox had been tied to free agent Bobby Abreu
as a potential backup option at first base and in the outfield, but the team is
now unlikely to pursue the veteran for such a role, according to Nick Cafardo
of The Boston Globe.
Abreu wants to stay in baseball, and the Red Sox were among
the teams that tried him out. But I was told the Red Sox are unlikely to...
The Red Sox might still be in the offseason, but NESN’s Sox reporter Jenny Dell is already hard at work.
Dell, Hot 96.9 FM’s Pebbles, boxing champ Danny O’Connor and others will serve as celebrity guest judges for the New England Revolution’s Rev Girls audition finals on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. ET at Game On! in Boston.
The Rev Girls serve as the team’s official promotional...
The Red Sox were willing to give Bobby Abreu a look, but that might be the extent of their interest.
According to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox are unlikely to pursue Abreu as the backup first baseman/outfielder they’ve been seeking this winter.
On the surface, Abreu — if capable of playing an adequate first base (a big “if”) — would seem to make some...
With Spring Training less than a month away, the Red Sox 40 Man
Roster should be fairly set until the end of camp. I'll take this
opportunity to review the entire roster. Lets face it, there's not much
else going on.
If it wasn't enough that the Red Sox were able to unload so much salary in the Megadeal, the club also got talent in return. They acquired two of...
The New York Mets signed right-handed pitcher Scott Atchison to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to MLB Spring Training, the team announced. Atchison, 36, pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 2012, posting a 1.58 ERA with in
51 1/3 innings. He was non-tendered in November instead of being offered arbitration.
Drafted in the ninth round of the 2006 MLB Draft, the Boston Red Sox have held high expectations for talented outfielder Ryan Kalish. As the Trot Nixon and JD Drew years are now behind them, the team has been searching for a right fielder to succeed the previous champions who patrolled the position. Unfortunately, Kalish's bright career has been consistently sidetracked due to...
