Will Middlebrooks is heading back down to Pawtucket soon According to CBS Sports Jon Heyman, Kevin Youkilis will receive his third-base job back when he returns from the 15 day disabled list and rookie sensation Will Middlebrooks will be sent back to Pawtucket. This is incredibly interesting news considering that Will Middlebrooks has been outstanding. He’s hitting .304/.347/.674 with four homers and 13 RBI in 11 games while Kevin Youkilis was hitting .219/.292/.344 with two homers and 9 RBI in 18 games. Clearly, Middlebrooks has been out performing Youkilis and in a pure meritocracy – something you would hope that the Red Sox use – it would now become Middlebrooks job to lose. Two possible things I can see from the Red Sox side of things. The first thing is that they actually do want to move ahead with the Will Middlebrooks era and want Youkilis to start performing, if only to increase his trade value for teams needing a third-baseman. Secondly, they do not want to sit Middlebrooks on the bench and just let him sit there. They would rather him go back to Pawtucket and continue to play baseball and be fresh and ready next time they need him. One thing I do know. We are much closer to the real start of the Will Middlebrooks era today than we were at the beginning of the season. I always loved Kevin Youkilis’ heart and passion, but Middlebrooks looks more and more like the real deal every day.

Will Middlebrooks to be Sent Back to AAA Upon Youkilis’ Return

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Will Middlebrooks will be sent back to Pawtucket once Kevin Youkilis returns from injury. Youkilis began his rehab assignment last night in Pawtucket, during which he went 1-2, with a double and a BB. Many had questioned whether Middlebrooks would retain the starting 3B spot in the Red Sox lineup after Will’s strong start combined with Youkilis’...

Will Youkilis finish season with BoSox?

I asked two general managers Thursday about Kevin Youkilis. The first said that he would need to see Youkilis play for an extended period before determining whether his team had interest, citing Youkilis' declining offense, defense and health. The second said he would not claim Youkilis and the approximately $9 million remaining on his contract if the Red Sox released the veteran...

Since Kevin Youkilis was placed on the disabled list on May 2, Red Sox fans have had the fortune of seeing Will Middlebrooks step up in his spot with great success. Since Middlebrooks' call-up, many have wondered what will happen upon Youkilis' return from injury. That day may be coming soon. Youkilis took a big step in the right direction on Wednesday with his first minor...

Kevin Youkilis' Future Difficult to Consider With Third Baseman's Value Uncertain After Injury

Kevin Youkilis looked pretty good in his first rehab start for the Pawtucket Red Sox, and the third baseman's quick return to the lineup would be a positive sign for a Red Sox team that's struggled for them sometimes. However, with Will Middlebrooks playing well in his absence, fans in Red Sox Nation are curious about the future of the club's hot corner and how the team...

Will Middlebrooks Still Receiving Praise From Bobby Valentine Despite Cooling Off a Bit (Video)

Will Middlebrooks exploded offensively upon making his leap to the big leagues, but the young third baseman has since cooled off a bit. Middlebrooks remains a tough out for opposing pitchers, but he's seen his average dip drastically as a result of some struggles. If nothing else, it could make it easier for Bobby Valentine to plug in Kevin Youkilis over Middlebrooks when the...

No Youkilis in Cincy

A couple days ago Paul Daugherty of Cincinnati.com wrote a piece wondering if Kevin Youkilis would be a good fit for the Cincinnati Reds. He talks about how the Boston Red Sox third baseman is a native of the city could be the grinding power bat that the team needs. Well today John Fay also of Cincinnati.com has a quote from General Manager Walt Jocketty that killed any chance...

Will Middlebrooks is engaged to a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader

Ann Lux Is Former Cowboys Cheerleader Turned MLB WAG

Will Middlebrooks has more HRs than Albert Pujols. Has the same amount of RBI (14) as Pujols. Has a better batting average. And has scored just one fewer run (9) than Pujols. Never heard of Middlebrooks? He’s the third baseman replacement while Kevin Youkilis is on the DL. This Middlebrooks character is also going to be marrying a former Cowboys cheerleader, Ann Lux, in December...

How Should Bobby Valentine Decide Between Kevin Youkilis and Will Middlebrooks?

Bobby Valentine is in a bit of a bind. Kevin Youkilis is currently hitting the comeback trail and after a strong debut in the minors on Wednesday, he appears to be inching closer to reclaiming his spot in the Red Sox lineup as the everyday third baseman. At least, he would if Will Middlebrooks wasn't currently occupying it to considerable success. Since Middlebrooks was called...

Kevin Youkilis to Return to Game Action, Will Start Off as Designated Hitter With Pawtucket

BOSTON -- Kevin Youkilis is making his return to the Sox -- the PawSox that is. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the team plans to ease the third baseman into the fold by getting him a few at-bats as a designated hitter in Pawtucket, starting on Wednesday. The PawSox will take on the Durham Bulls in Durham, N.C. at 7:05 p.m. "We're going to try to get him at least three...

Cole Hamels Better Kick His 'Throw at Young Players' Habit Before Facing Will Middlebrooks (Video)

Cole Hamels, you're on notice. After you plunked Bryce Harper as a "welcome to the big leagues" moment, don't even think about pulling that stunt with our young stud player, Will Middlebrooks. If we've learned anything about Harper, it's that he might have deserved a little bit of an attitude adjustment. If you think the same about our Middlebrooks, well...

Kevin Youkilis could be on his way out of Boston

Last week, we speculated that the Boston Red Sox could trade third baseman, Kevin Youkilis, once he returns from the Disabled List, because his replacement, Will Middlebrooks, has proven to be ready to play in the Majors. Today, Buster Olney of ESPN (via Stephen Hewitt of WEEI.com) said that the team will actually “look at possible trade situations for Youkilis as he makes his...

Just Curious…

Did anyone else laugh out loud at these lines from Nick Cafardo on the Kevin Youkilis/Will Middlebrooks situation: Sunday: It should be Valentine’s decision as to whether Youkilis gets his job back, and nobody else’s. Today: The Drew Bledsoe-Tom Brady analogy is somewhat pertinent in this case. Bill Belichick had just about reached the end of the line with Bledsoe and when Brady...
