In case you missed the big news, the New York Mets have promoted Wilmer Flores from Triple-A Las Vegas. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for the Mets and even Flores who celebrates his 22nd birthday today. This was the correct move for the Mets as it keeps Daniel Murphy at second base and Eric Young in left field without having to upset the apple cart as they had originally planned. For now, the move restores the Mets bench to five players, but once Jon Niese is activated next week that will likely change again as the Mets shift back to a six-man rotation. I suspect Justin Turner will be the odd man out. I’m certain that Flores will play mostly at third for now and won’t bounce him around all over the place as he adjusts offensively to the major leagues. At least that’s the hope, but the Mets have bungled these things before with their rookies.
