While it might be too early to tell where some of this year’s deals rank all-time, some of the transactions that went down over the course of the past week are certainly going to pay dividends, one way or another, over the remainder of the regular season. Here are our winners and losers of the 2013 MLB trade deadline. WINNERS Boston Red Sox The reason the Jake Peavy deal vaults the Red Sox into the winners column is that they were able to deal from a position of strength and flip that for a need. Boston leads the league in both runs and batting average, so giving up Jose Iglesias and his .330 batting average (which may feel won’t last) in exchange for a front-line starter is an excellent move for general managers Ben Cherington. The loss of Iglesias will be mitigated by the presence of 20-year old prospect Xander Bogaerts, who is already at Triple-A for Boston. In the meantime, Peavy gets added to the stable next to Jon Lester at the front of the rotation to help keep the sails set ...

MLive.com’s Chris Iott posted a video highlight package of newly acquired Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias from the Boston Red Sox.
Even though it is just a short set of clips, it is clear Iglesias is an upgrade from Jhonny Peralta in range, quickness and playmaking ability. Many times throughout the package it looks like Iglesias will have to eat the ball, but is able to...
Just when everyone thought the Tigers were done, they pulled a shocker and landed young star shortstop Jose Iglesias from the Red Sox. The acquisition came at a steep price though, as the Tigers gave up one of their top prospects in outfielder Avisail Garcia.
Jose Iglesias, traded to the Tigers Tuesday, tweeted out his farewell to Fenway today.
A big thank you to the @RedSox organization and all of #RedSoxNation for all the love and support these first years of my career. Los amo!

The Red Sox will host Iglesias and the Tigers for a three-game series beginning...
DETROIT -- Dave Dombrowski doesn't know what is going to happen to Jhonny Peralta.
With the trade deadline approaching, he decided he couldn't wait to find out.
In a major trade announced in the first moments of Wednesday morning, the Tigers acquired Red Sox shortstop Jose Iglesias as part of a three-way trade that saw highly rated outfield prospect Avisail Garcia go to the...
Just before 11:00 and less than two hours after they beat the Mariners to remain half a game behind the red-hot Rays in the AL East, the Red Sox dealt one of their most promising young players for an established Major League starter. Rumored to be on the move during the days and weeks leading up to the trade deadline, the White Sox have agreed in principle to trade one-time 19...
With Jhonny Peralta apparently headed for a lengthy suspension in the Biogenesis case, the Detroit Tigers reportedly acquired Boston infielder Jose Iglesias in a three-team trade on Tuesday night. The move, reported by several national baseball writers, will send Detroit outfield prospect Avisail Garcia to the White Sox, bring Iglesais to Detroit and move Jake Peavy to Boston.
After falling out of first place in the AL East for the second time in the course of a week, the Red Sox do get some schedule relief in the coming days and weeks. Beginning Tuesday, Boston plays 13 of its next 16 games against teams at or below .500.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox begin a three-game home set against the Seattle Mariners, a team whose best hitter in 2013 has been the 41...
The Detroit Tigers sent one of their top prospects packing on Tuesday night, as they traded OF Avisail Garcia to the Chicago White Sox as part of a 3-team trade. In return, the Tigers will receive infielder Jose Iglesias from the Boston Red Sox. The other part of the deal is perhaps the biggest, as Jake Peavy trades in his white “Sox” for red ones. To round...
A busy sports day in Detroit just got a busier as fans learned a valuable lesson of NEVER trusting what a general manager has to say.
Hours after Dave Dombrowski made it look as though Detroit wasn’t on the verge of any blockbuster deals or addressing an impending short stop dilemma, the Tigers did a total 180. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Tigers sent outfielder...
The Detroit Tigers guarded against the expected suspension of their
shortstop, Jhonny Peralta, by adding a gifted young replacement,
Jose Iglesias. Call it the Jake Peavy trade. Or call it Biogenesis
Trade I. Biogenesis Trade II is expected Wednesday.
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox now are considerably better positioned for both this season and next as a result of Peavy's arrival. The 32-year-old represents a solid mid-rotation starter who, in 80 innings this...
I’m sure I’m not the only baseball fan that feels this way, but the trade deadline is almost like Christmas in July (if you practice Christmas…insert your own personal holiday of choice if you don’t). Rumors are flying like crazy, and if your team is lucky, they get a new gift.
So far, there have been some big deals, some little deals, and some that haven’t happened. ...
