In playoff action out of the Dominican from last night, Starling Marte went 3-for-4, with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Marte’s Escogido team took a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-nine championship series with a 8-5 win. He is now hitting .387 in the playoffs after batting .304 during the DWL regular season. Marte has four playoff homers In action out of Venezuela, Luis Sanz threw a scoreless inning of relief during his team’s 4-1 loss. Sanz needed 13 pitches(eight for strikes) to retire the side in order. He struck out one batter. In Australian Baseball League action from today, Stefan Welch collected three hits in Adelaide’s 9-0 win. He hit a triple and drove in his team-leading 27th run. Former Pirates minor leaguer Quincy Latimore, playing in his 12th game of the ABL season, drove in his 12th run. Also in Australia, in the U18 National Youth Championships, Sam Kennelly went 2-for-3, with three RBI’s, as his team rolled to an 8-0 victory in the bronze medal game. Kennelly finished the tournament with 19 hits and 15 RBI’s in ten games played. His team won the bronze medal despite going 11-1 in the entire tournament. The gold medal winning team went 8-5 in the tournament, while the silver medal team went 9-3. Nick Hutchings, who was recently signed as a pitcher, batted lead-off for his team and went 0-for-2, with two strikeouts, before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth. He began the game at shortstop, then moved to left field in the top of the fifth inning. The playoffs in Colombia continued last night, with five players from the Pirates farm system involved between the two teams, among them Dilson Herrera and Harold Ramirez. The score has yet to be posted(check back later for updates). The series is a best-of-three between the second and third place teams, with the winner going on to play the first place team in a best-of-seven series to decide the league title. Friday night, Harold Ramirez helped his team to a 12-6 victory in game one.
