In Winter League action in the Dominican from last night, Anderson Hernandez went 1-for-5, with a single and an RBI. He remains atop the DWL leaderboard with 53 hits, two ahead of former Pirates catcher Robinzon Diaz, who sits in second place.
Alex Valdez went 1-for-4, with a run scored. His .864 OPS ranks him fifth among qualified batters in the DWL.
Felix Pie went 2-for-4, with a run scored and his 19th RBI of the DWL season. He has a .707 OPS through 40 games played.
In Puerto Rico, Benji Gonzalez went 1-for-5 before being pinch-hit for in the 14th inning. He handled all eight chances in the field cleanly. Gonzalez is now 10-for-35(.286) on the year in 16 games, with five walks, but no extra base hits.
Remaining Winter League Schedule
The Dominican League wraps up it’s regular season schedule on December 21st. There is one game on the schedule today.
The Venezuelan, Puerto Rican and Mexican Leagues all finish their regular season on December 30th. Only the Venezuelan League has games scheduled for today.
The Australian Baseball League goes until the last weekend in January. The league resumes play on Friday, with each team playing a four-game series over the weekend, which includes a Saturday doubleheader. Beginning next week, the teams will play one game a day from Thursday until Sunday, through the end of the season. The ABL begins it’s playoffs on February 8th.
On February 2nd, the four Caribbean Leagues will send their championship teams to the Caribbean Series where they will compete in a round-robin championship series.
