The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a two year deal with super-utilityman Miguel Cairo. No real surprise there. Cairo provides the Reds with much needed depth on the corner infield. He will be used to spell Scott Rolen as the Reds plan to rest him more next season. MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon reported the signing.

In trade rumor news, the Arizona Diamondbacks have interest in outfielder Chris Heisey. Heisey was used as a backup in 2010 and will return to that role in 2011 if he remains a Red. The Reds’ minor league player of the year in 2009, Heisey is another guy providing the Reds with good outfield depth, but with Gomes back this year, and several other good hitting prospects on the horizon, it is conceivable that the Reds view Heisey as expendable. Even further down the road, the Reds have potentially top prospects in Yorman Rodriguez and Juan Duran who are great athletes but raw as baseball players. The Diamondbacks have yet to officially approach the Reds about Heisey.
