The Miami Marlins continued trade discussions on Tuesday mostly centering around Yunel Escobar who is expected to be moved in the very near future.    The shotstop who was acquired in the trade with Toronto could be moved by the end of Tuesday according to some reports.   There are a handful of teams involved in the discussions wit the Tampa Bay Rays rumored to be leading the pack.    In other news, Miami has stated they plan to retain Ricky Nolasco despite the rumors that the Marlins’ ace wants to be traded. If and when Escobar is moved, the Marlins are expected to receive back minor league talent in return.   With Adeiny Hechavarria slated to be the starting shortstop in 2013, Escobar would have been asked to man third base had he been retained.    Miami will look to sign a third baseman or acquire one via trade after they have completed the movement of Escobar.   The names being mentioned thus far as possible free agents for third base are Mark Reynolds and Ian Stewart.   Reynold...

Rays acquire SS Yunel Escobar from Marlins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- How will the Yunel Escobar era be remembered in Miami? Probably not at all. The talented but controversial shortstop was traded from the Marlins to the Tampa Bay Rays late Tuesday night in exchange for infield prospect Derek Dietrich. The trade comes just weeks after he was shipped from Toronto in the mega 12-player deal made with Miami. The Rays were in need...

Marlins deal newly acquired Escobar to Rays

Yunel Escobar's stint with the Miami Marlins is over before it began. Weeks after he was acquired by Miami in a trade that sent five high-priced players to the Toronto Blue Jays, Escobar was traded again Tuesday night. He went to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for minor league middle infielder Derek Dietrich. The trade saves the cost-conscious Marlins $5 million (Escobar...

Rays Pull Off Inevitable Yunel Escobar Acquisition

It might not be fair to say the Tampa Bay Rays don’t care about player makeup concerns. You could conceivably come up with a hypothetical talented player so awful the Rays wouldn’t take a chance. Based on precedent and indications, it might be fair to say the Rays care the least about player makeup concerns of any team in the league. Almost by necessity, if you figure the Rays...

Tampa Bay Rays acquire Yunel Escobar from Miami Marlins

The Tampa Bay Rays filled a consistent hole at shortstop, picking up Yunel Escobar from the Miami Marlins in exchange for infield prospect Derek Dietrich. Escobar's tenure in Miami was brief, as the Marlins immediately began trying to unload him once they acquired him from the Blue Jays last month in the megadeal that sent Josh Johnson and Jose Reyes (among others) north of the...

Rays, Marlins go conservative in Nashville

The Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays both made big news leading up to this years winter meetings and figure to keep tinkering with their rosters after departing Nashville, Tenn. During the actual meetings four days that included many rumors but relatively little action the two Florida teams helped each other: The Rays filled a need while alleviating the Marlins of a potential...

It was reported on Monday that the Marlins are shopping Escobar, after acquiring him from the Blue Jays in a deal that sent Josh Johnson, Mark...

Winter Meetings Recap: Monday

The Winter Meetings are not expected to be anything like 2011 for the Miami Marlins.  Last season, Miami stole the show by storming into the meetings and leaving with over a hundred million dollars in contracts committed.   The Marlins also tried to land a couple of more big ticket players but missed out.  This year it’s all about moving more pieces and maybe signing a few small...

Winter Meetings Recap: Wednesday
