The Mets were not kind to Braves rookie Alex Wood
The Atlanta Braves fell 7-4 to the New York Mets in the final game of the series on Thursday afternoon as Braves rookie Alex Wood struggled in his second start. The Braves road woes continued this past four days in New York.
Alex Wood was called up to take Paul Maholm’s spot in the Atlanta rotation. This was his 2nd start of the season, and 1st since being sent to Gwinnett to be “stretched” out for a starting role.
The Braves got a run in very unusual fashion in the 1st inning. Evan Gattis struck out, but the ball got by Mets catcher, John Buck. Buck tried to throw Gattis out at 1st, but instead hit Gattis with the throw. Reed Johnson was able to score, as the ball hit Gattis and got away from the Mets first baseman, Josh Satin.
The Mets responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Marlon Byrd singled to left, that allowed Eric Young Jr. to score and get the Mets on the board.

Braves pitcher Tim Hudson had his ankle rolled, spiked, and broken last night. Covering first, Hudson stepped awkwardly on the far right of the bag. Mets runner Eric Young hit it just wrong and Hudson had his ankle shattered. He is done for the year.
