A blessing in disguise when Victorino was a last minute scratch, because Jonny Gomes came through huge! Jonny Gomes' 3-run homer put the Sox up 4-1 and they never looked back. Uehara's pick off to end the game at 4-2, was pretty nice too!
Maybe Jonny has another homer stashed in his pocket for tonight...
Which Cardinal(s) to watch out for: Adam Wainwright
We saw a very uncharacteristic outing from Wainwright in game 1. He's coming back, and coming back strong. I doubt the Sox will be able to knock him out early again, or get 5 runs off of him.
Even though he had a better winning percentage away from St. Louis this season (.769 vs. .600) in an equal amount of games, he is statistically better at home. His ERA is lower, has pitched 4 of his 5 complete games at home, has more K's and a far lower WHIP.
We are going to see the normal Adam Wainwright tonight and it is going to be scary.
Key to Sox victory: Jon Lester pitching that much better than Wainwright
There is no doubt in my mind that Jon Lester is going to pitch well tonight. But, how well? I am afraid of what Wainwright is going to bring to the table, and Lester just needs to be that much better. He is very much capable of doing so. And, he will.
Jon Lester is going to shine again tonight and continue the postseason of his career. It will be a pitchers duel, one that will require the whole bottle of Pepto Bismol. Get ready for the tightness in your chests tonight, but it will be all good, as the Sox will win this one, 3-1.
