By many accounts the Red Sox's have stepped up their efforts to trade Kevin Youkilis, once the heart and sole of Boston he now appears to be on the outside looking in at a clubhouse that may possibly be in total disarray.

It's said that the Mets are weeks away from deciding if they're buyers and even if they venture into the trade market it will only be for smaller pieces.

But I can't help but wonder if Youkilis would be simply be too tempting for this moneyball front office to pass up, AKA Peter Brand has been looking at Youk since Boston drafted him if you believe the accuracy of the movie.

The Mets need a middle of the order right handed bat and Youk's grinder mentality may have eventually  ostracized him in Boston it would be perfect in the Mets clubhouse.

Youk has 20 major league games in left field in which he's made one error in four attempts, it's not much of a sample pool but he'd be here for his bat/OBP and provides depth at 1B/3B.  Start him in Left and maybe use him if Davis' splits once you feel he's no longer slumping show that he needs a partner.

Not only has he allegedly worn out his welcome in the clubhouse but as his injuries have mounted he no longer is hitting, so far this season he's only appeared in 41 games with a BA of .225.  His OBP has dipped to .311 and Slg. pct. .359.

Would a change of scenery and taking a position as a role player instead of the center piece, especially in a clubhouse that would welcome his attitude help him return to his form as the Greek God of walks.  What if you got Murphy going and Ike stayed hot how would 2-5 look with Murphy, Youk, Ike and David.

He's owned 12M for this year and has a club option for 13M next year, even if the Mets decided to pick-up that option which I would doubt, as a veteran player traded during a multi-year like Delgado could have in '07'.

What would he cost in players, would the Mets be willing to take on what is left of his '12' salary and how would he look regularly in left field.

That’s why the Sox have stepped up their efforts to deal Youkilis. source Boston Globe
