David Wright is one of the hottest players in the game right now and baseball fans everywhere are taking note. Wright has overtaken San Francisco’s Pablo Sandoval for the voting lead at third base in the latest update of balloting released Sunday. Trailing by more than 100,000 votes as recently as last week, Wright has now taken a 128,831 vote lead. Last week, Wright collected his 1,500th career hit, extending his own franchise record and also had his 20th career multi-homer game in Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Braves. The club record for multi-homer games is 22 and held by Darryl Strawberry. Wright is only the seventh player to play in New York to have 200 homers and a .300 batting average at the time of his 1,500th hit, joining Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Duke Snider and Mel Ott.
