Bryce Brentz was on pace to participate in spring training with the Red Sox, but an early January accident will delay the start of his 2013 baseball season. Brentz shot himself in the leg while cleaning his shotgun, as first reported by WEEI.com. Ben Cherington confirmed the news while meeting with the media on Saturday. The 24-year-old outfielder said the injury is “nothing serious”...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
"Right now, our expectation is (carrying) Salty and Ross. They're the two proven guys," GM Ben Cherington
said earlier today. "We think Salty and Ross complement each other
Jon Lester is still under contract for 2013, and the Red Sox have a $13 million club option on the left-hander for 2014. Beyond that, the picture is unclear.
Lester said that he hasn’t been approached by the Red Sox about a contract extension, according to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford.
This doesn’t mean that Lester won’t receive a extension, or that the Red Sox won’t approach...
John Lackey‘s time so far in Boston may not have worked out quite as planned, but the big right-hander looks intent on changing his legacy in Beantown.
Now about 16 months removed from Tommy John surrgery, for the first time in quite a while Lackey is completely healthy, and he’s showed up to Red Sox camp in Fort Myers early to get in some extra work. Moreover, Lackey showed...
The Red Sox truck has arrived in Florida at last, meaning spring training and all the fun and expectations that come with it can finally begin.
But current Red Sox players and team personnel aren’t the only ones popping up in Florida this week as baseball shakes off winter — old pitching hand Pedro Martinez is also around. The former Sox legend has signed up to work as a special...
Of the Red Sox’ numerous offseason acquisitions, Mike Napoli may be the most intriguing.
The former Texas Ranger, who finally signed a one-year deal with Boston after extensive negotiations, will be making the transition from catcher to first base this season, as the Sox are loaded with talent behind the plate.

If not for the accident, Brentz would have had the opportunity...
My theory is if you can’t clean a gun properly you shouldn’t own a gun. Take the case of Bryce Brentz who pulled a Plaxico on himself according to Deadspin.
#RedSox OF prospect Bryce Brentz shot himself in the leg while cleaning a handgun a few weeks ago. Not on ST roster as a result.
