(Photo/Carlos Osorio/AP) The Boston Red Sox got an outstanding performance out of Jon Lester on Monday night. The starting pitched tossed 8.1 innings of shutout baseball, surrendering only six hits and two walks while striking out three. Tuesday night, the Red Sox hope that starter Jake Peavy will give them a similar start. While Peavy will get his fourth start with the Red Sox on Tuesday night the focus will be on the shortstop position. Highly touted Red Sox infielder Xander Bogaerts will make his Major League debut on Tuesday night in place of shortstop Stephen Drew. Bogaerts was called up from the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday and made the trip out west with the Red Sox. The shortstop will likely be rotated in the lineup with Drew throughout the remainder of the season. “We’re trying to build in some scheduled down days, and Xander will provide that at shortstop with Stephen [Drew],” said Red Sox Manger John Farrell. “The reason we brought Xander was a right-handed bat to complement him. That’s not to say a platoon situation by any means.” Xander Bogaerts excelled at both the Double-A and Triple-A level this season. While with the Portland Sea Dogs, the top prospect batted .311 with 12 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 35 RBI. After being promoted to the Paw Sox, Bogaerts went on to bat .284 with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 32 RBI. The newest member of the Paw Sox to join the big league club goes from being the youngest player at the Triple-A level to the third youngest at the Major League level. The only players younger than Bogaerts are Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Jurickson Profar of the Texas Rangers. First pitch for Tuesday night’s ballgame is 10:15 p.m. eastern time from AT&T Park in San Francisco, Calif.
