The Yankees had plans for a cremony in early November to close the stadium for good. Those plans have been canceled, and there will not be another stadium sendoff. It was supposed to commemorate both baseball and non-baseball events that took place in the ballpark. As many of you know..Yankee Stadium has also hosted many boxing matches, football games, and concerts. Instead of another ceremony, the organization will donate $500,000 to the Baseball Assistance Team. There will be no more events at Yankee Stadium. It is really sad when you come to realize that we won't see it any longer. Torre was thinkning about returning, but now that it has been canceled..that isn't going to happen.
"The Yankees were considering having a charitable event at Yankee Stadium for BAT (Baseball Assistance Team)," the club said in a statement. "However, the Yankees realized that the final event at Yankee Stadium should be a baseball game which in fact took place on Sept. 21, 2008 with the magnificent closing ceremony. Accordingly, rather than having a fundraiser, the Yankees will be donating $500,000 to BAT."
