New York Yankees
ATLANTA - Pitcher Ivan Nova singled in his first at-bat for his first major league hit, then mowed down the Braves for seven innings as the Yankees won the first game of a three-game series 3-0 Monday. Nova (8-2) allowed only five singles, four of them to lead off innings: Michael Bourn in the first, Jason Heyward in the third, Martin Prado in the fourth and Chipper Jones in the fifth. The only other hit, by Braves starting right-hander Randall Delgado (4-6), came with two outs in the fifth, causing no damage. There were Yankees on base in all five innings Delgado pitched as he gave up five hits and six walks. Cory Gearrin, just called up from Triple-A Gwinnett, allowed three more hits and a walk in his two innings of work but was saved by timely double plays and a spectacular diving catch by Bourn. The Yankees didn't need anything flashy on defense, or even pedestrian, really, since the Braves mounted no offense. The brightest spot for the Braves came when struggling rel...
BEST OF MAXIM
Ivan Nova wasn't as sharp as he would have liked Monday night, but the 25-year-old found a way to make the pitches when he needed to, firing seven shutout innings in the New York Yankees' 3-0 win over the Atlanta Braves. Nova allowed five hits -- all singles -- and walked one, striking out six. Only one Braves hitter advanced past first base all game, and that happened...
Jay-Z once said, “Loiterers should be arrested.” Does Ivan Nova feel the same way? The transitive property—Nova and Jay-Z both attend plenty of Yankees games—suggests that he might; so too does Nova’s unwavering commitment to self-improvement. ESPN’s Jorge Arangure Jr. detailed Nova’s upbringing earlier this season and concluded that the pitcher’s success is miraculous...
ATLANTA (AP) -- Ivan Nova combined with four relievers on a five-hitter and the New York Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves 3-0 on Monday night to claim a share of first place in the AL East for the first time in seven weeks.
Raul Ibanez led off the second inning with a homer and Robinson Cano had two hits, including a run-scoring single in the first. The surging Yankees climbed into...

Ivan Nova is just one young New York Yankee pitcher that could anchor rotations for years to come.
Check these guys out if you need a quick spot start.
Ivan Nova – His last start was far and away his best of the season, but until then it’s truly amazing that he had a winning record. That being said, he’s 7-2 on the year so something is working. Use at your own risk.
Garret Richards – In is first start, Richards went 7 innings and only gave up 1 run on 4 hits to go along...

ATLANTA -- Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova singled in his first at-bat for his first major league hit, then mowed down the Atlanta Braves for seven innings as New York won the first game of a three-game series 3-0 Monday, tying them with Tampa Bay for first place in the American League East. "Who would have thought it?" manager Joe Girardi said. "I think there's a...
Source: Jeff Gross/Getty Images North America) With each team playing just six games this week, there are only 30 two-start pitcher options this week. Eleven of those 30 are owned in 100% of leagues. Eight more are owned in less than 1% of ten team leagues and are unusable. That leaves just eleven guys that fantasy owners have to make decisions on this week. Below is a start...
As much as their offense has begun to click, the Yankees’ resurgence has been centered around a string of great performances by their much-maligned starting rotation. Pitchers such as Phil Hughes, Ivan Nova and Hiroki Kuroda had shown flashes of brilliance in earlier starts, but in the last couple of weeks, they’ve all put it together.
Nova was great again last night, going seven...
Three weeks ago, the New York Yankees were at the bottom of the AL East following their worst stretch of the season.
The club now has a chance to move back to the top of the standings.
The Yankees go for a fourth consecutive victory Monday night while the host Atlanta Braves try to start a new surge after their longest winning streak of the season was snapped.
Since dropping six...
