Freddy Garcia worked around two homers by Josh Hamilton to remain undefeated against Texas for eight years and the New York Yankees beat the Rangers for the third straight night, 3-2 on Wednesday. Hamilton became the second player to reach 100 RBIs this season - Detroit's Miguel Cabrera was first - with his career-high 33rd homer, a line drive to right in the fourth inning. His majestic drive in the sixth was all Texas could muster in their eighth straight loss in the Bronx. Nick Swisher gave the Yankees the lead with an RBI double off Scott Feldman in a three-run third inning. Swisher put the Yankees ahead in the first two games, too. He hit a grand slam Monday and a two-run shot Tuesday night in a matchup between the teams with the best records in the AL. Garcia (7-5) followed Hiroki Kuroda's two-hitter Tuesday by giving up four hits in 6 2-3 innings.

Is Josh Hamilton’s Plate Discipline Improving?

After brutal June and July performances, Josh Hamilton has performed well in the first few weeks of August, hitting .320/.382/.580 in 55 trips to the plate. According to both Hamilton and his coaches, the improvement is the direct result of his willingness to finally make adjustments in terms of which pitches to swing at. After months of hacking away at pitches well out of the...

Two Hamilton home runs aren’t enough

For the second night in a row, Rangers pitchers did their job while the offense floundered.  It’s so frustrating to watch this team.  I know they’re leading the AL West and have the second best record in the AL.  They still look good enough to make October, but if they keep playing like this, they won’t make it through October. Rangers fans were pretty stoked this afternoon...

Eric Chavez Reborn in New York

There was a time when Eric Chavez was on a hall-of-fame-level career path. Through 2006 — his age-28 season and his eighth full major league campaign — Chavez had a .271/.350/.489 batting line, 212 home runs and six well-deserved (at least most of them) Gold Gloves. Basically, if you think Scott Rolen should be a hall-of-famer, you can see Chavez traveling the same path — especially...

Yankeetorial: Where have you gone, Corey Wade, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

What's that you say, Mrs. Dickerson, Chris has gone to "Scranton" for a day, hey hey hey. This year, to be "sent to Scranton" means to be placed into a Higgs boson obliteration booth, (known as the Meacham Machine), disembodied and transported via wormhole to the most remote part of the galaxy: the NY State Thruway. Think: Batavia. Any of you ever been to...

Eric Chavez: A Diamond Off The Bench

With Alex Rodriguez on the DL, Eric Chavez has filled the void by outshining the former star in front of him. When a key position player player goes down with an injury, it usually sends managers scrambling to fill the void immediately, so they seek help from their bench, farm system, or possible trades. Replacing a high caliber player isn’t always the easiest task and the same...

Michael Kay won't have any of you blaming him for jinxing Hiroki Kuroda's no-hitter

Last night in New York, Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda took a no-hitter into the 7th inning against the Rangers.  The no-hitter was broken up, but Kuroda pitched a complete game shutout in a 3-0 victory. So who's to blame for having Kuroda's chance at history being spoiled?   Why naturally, Yankees announcer Michael Kay. We've chronicled some of Kay's battles...

Rangers 10, Yankees 6

Craig Gentry turned a spot start into a tiebreaking hit and the Texas Rangers avoided a four-game sweep in a matchup of AL division leaders, rallying past the New York Yankees 10-6 Thursday. Texas had lost eight straight at Yankee Stadium overall. The hard-hitting Rangers had done little in this series, too, totaling only four runs before the finale. Gentry started for the first...

LeMahieu and Young stain Fiers’ resume

D.J. LeMahieu has four-hit game Colorado didn’t need home runs to beat up Milwaukee and star rookie Mike Fiers, scoring nine times on Monday. Fiers entered the game with a dominating 1.80 ERA but allowed eight runs in two innings at Coors Field. Rookie second baseman D.J. Red Sox-Yankees Preview

Late-summer series between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees typically carry a postseason buzz about them. Not this year. While the Yankees own a healthy lead atop the AL East, three games against Boston may appear to be a bit of a breather for New York when the Red Sox limp into the Bronx three games below .500 on Friday night. The Yankees (70-48) enter this series with...

Three-Quarter Fantasy MVPs

Remember when Matt Kemp was tearing up the league in April, and everyone who didn't have a top-three pick was upset they never had the chance to draft him? And then it was Josh Hamilton ? on pace for 100 home runs and 1,000 RBI through the end of May. Now it's Mike Trout who despite wasting three weeks in the minors leads the majors in runs scored with 80 and steals with...
