Photo Credit: Daniel Shirey – USA TODAY Sports The Yankees and Chicago Cubs struck a deal last night that sends shortstop Alberto Gonzalez to New York in exchange for either cash or a player to be named later, according to Andy McCullough via twitter. The move gives the Yankees some much needed depth at shortstop, since Derek Jeter will be out until after the All-Star break and Eduardo Nunez is battling minor injuries. Gonzalez, 30, will be making his second stint with the organization. He spent parts of 2007 and ’08 with the club before being traded to the Nationals at the ’08 trade deadline. This year, Gonzalez is hitting .217/.269/.391 with a homer and two RBIs in 11 games. For his career, Gonzalez is a .241 hitter. Gonzalez will head to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre where he will be an insurance policy at short. Nunez is still listed as day-to-day with a ribcage injury. The Yankees acquired Cubs minor-league SS Alberto Gonzalez for either a PTBNL or cash. He’s headed to Scranton. Non-roster guy. — Andy McCullough (@McCulloughSL) May 10, 2013
